Hi Folks,

If any of you follow the mighty Reds and fancy listening to a new podcast that a few friends and me have decided to attempt, then you can do so at the following link.

We are still wearing our armbands in the unforgivingly deep swimming pool of contemporary media. Our stablisers are still firmly attached to the bicycle of sports journalism... but we are trying. Very trying (weyhey!).

All feedback welcomed - contact details all on the blog.

Our father who leads our lions,

Capello be your name,

Our time has come, let the trophy be won,

In Africa as it was once at Wembley,

Give us this day a Rooney goal,

And forgive us our last performance,

As we forgive those that played that game for us,

And lead us not into the airport,

But deliver us from group C,

For England is the kingdom, we want the power and glory,

Forever and ever, amen!

Now we've seen everyone... in Sports by Damien

Realistically people were looking at 9 potential winners this year with anyone else being a surprise package. So, now we've seen them all play...

France - 0-0 with Uruguay (ranked 16th)

Argies - 1-0 against Nigeria (21st)

Germans - Convincing aginst Oz to be fair (20th)

Dutch - good 2-0 but Denmark are average and rely on Bendtner (36th)

Italy - Struggled to 1-1 v Paraguay (31st)

Portugal boring 0-0 with Ivory Coast (27th)

Brazil - 2-1 against N.Korea (105th)

Spain 0-1 Switzerland (24th)

England played the USA, ranked 14th, and only drew 1-1 because of an uncharacteristic howler from Green. The USA have a higher rank than any other opposing nation mentioned above, not all that bad when you look at it like that!

In my opinion, England are as likely to win this tournament as anybody else, as good as the Germans look, their card will be much more heavily marked now, getting off to a flier isn't always a good thing.

It's delicately poised, and whilst the vuvuzelas may have taken some of the atmosphere away from the singing/chanting and there hasn't been a huge amount of incident or attacking flair - teams now know where they stand and what they need to do. Winning games now becomes vital and I think that the World Cup is gonna really come to life by the weekend.

I'm getting giddy again! COME ON ENGLAND!

So now we have another 'marital misdemeanour' story about to break just before the world cup...

Apparently (allegedly) Mr Gerrard has got a 16 year old girl pregnant while his wife has been off sleeping with a Derby County player - and this is why he will be off to a European club in the summer.

I can see a call up for Don Rogers at this rate!!
