iPod gig listing app... in Media Section by Sheermusic

Anyone else using songkick??

It's a GREAT website to list gigs.

Late last year I went to New York, I typed my location into the app, and got 100's of local events - Try this around the UK and you literally have in the palm of your hands EVERY gig that's going on in any town, at any given moment... all neatly listed.

I've been using it for my shows, and it's a very good way to see an overview of what I'm doing...

Some one try it and and let me know what you think

Had quite a good night last night on the TV/music front. Firstly watched part one of Queens of Pop, a documentary highlighting the careers of Dusty Springfield, Sandy Shaw, Marianne Faithful, Souixsie Souix and Kate Bush, which was excellent.

Later that night on one of the Sky movie channels was Killing Bono, based on the memoirs of Neil McCormack who was at school with the U2 guys and who spent their youth trying and failing to achieve the same musical success to the point of obsession. A lot better than I thought it would be.

What's on TV tonight in Media Section by BillytheMountain

The BBC has a fantastic archive and I am sure you know, they are reshowing some excellent stuff on BBC4 primarily. The iplayer holds onto some of it in case you missed it; another great tool from the BBC, gotta love them.

Anyhow, tonight I am looking forward to watching some Simon and Garfunkel on BBC 4.

If you have forgotten what beautiful crafted songs they wrote or maybe you don't know, I recommend Imagine at 10pm and Songs of America at 5 past midnight. This, I remember, is a really great documentary and urge all of you to watch.

Sky Arts is a good source too. At the same time as the Song's of America doc they are showing The Pixies accoustic set from Newport Folk Festival, 2005 I think. Thom Yorke is quoted as saying " Listening to The Pixies changed my life" and this accoustic set will show you why. I wish I had one of those clever boxes that record shit.

I know there's some dedicated Peelites here - thought you might enjoy this.

Was listening to this odd, slightly chaotic and very eclectic internet radio station, and thinking; 'hmmmm.... reminds me of the Peel show'. Visited the website and lo and behold, that is what it's all about - a 24hr radio station dedicated to the memory of John Peel.

What a dismal waste of so much money, talent and effort. Truly tedious and unremarkable in every way, other than the laughably poor dialogue.

The single best thing to have come out of this film being made is a user question about it on IMDB:

So, I watched a bit of X-Factor in Media Section by TimO

Bloody hell - I wasn't expecting what I got. I watched the first 2 acts on Saturday night - first up was Matt - who looked really self-conscious and uncomfortable in a vest and surrounded by hot dancers. He proceeded the grab his allocated Beatles tune by the throat and wrestle any musicality out of it by brute force. good job he'd ditched his sweater 'cos it looked like quite an effort.

Anyway next on was Cher who sang Imagine in such a way as to render it devoid of any emotional content. Whilst sat half way up a staircase.

So far so, so-so, but what genuinely had be agog was the way in which they judges then seemed to be implying that these people were genuine, one-of-a-kind superstars. I know it's cool to offer up faux shock at reality telly but seriously, it had me shouting at the telly (I now have an insight in to all the Facebook shouting I suppose lol ) - are we meant to think that the judges mean that stuff? Or actually, do they?

I turned over.

The Walking Dead in Media Section by 20Eyes

So, it's finally upon us.

Great opener. Easily one of the best horror-oriented productions I've seen on TV. They have a slightly different perspective on the zombie/human relationship and interaction that I thought worked really well - it's like both parties are just deeply sad at what's happened, rather than the humans just being terrified all the time and the zombies being relentlessly vicious and violent.

Only slight logical problem was the period that the main guy was in a coma. He was still able to walk unaided, which means it couldn't have been more than a week to 10 days and yet the clock battery had stopped, the entire population had been affected and his wife had already shacked up with his mate. Hmm.

There some amazing touches throughout, mainly in terms of what they don't do (thus avoiding being predictable and following the mainstream cinema horror conventions of the last decade or two).

Overall: loved it.
