Tribute Band Who's Next

I have been to see a few bands at the Queens Tap and have been pleasantly surprised. The first time I went there I was not sure what to expect as it is opposite the station and in an area that was not one of the best in Swindon at one time. However I found that the pub had been refurbished and the sound quality there was excellent. I went there at the invitation of a friend who told me what a great place it was and I have to agree. The locals there are really appreciative of the bands who play there and join in dancing and singing and often congratulate the bands after they have finished. The first band I went to see there was Dropstone a band well known to me and they went down really well there. Since then I have seen a few covers bands and Jeff Like Usual who also played there and who also did very well with the locals even though the band was not familiar to everyone and the sound once again was excellent. This time I went to see a tribute band. Although entry is usually free to the pub on this occasion entry was by ticket only costing a fiver on the door and less in advance. The tribute band came from the midlands and the lead singer had Daltreys moves off to a tee. I am not that much of a Who fan only knowing the most famous of their songs but I came away wanting to know more and this was a view echoed by a few others who vowed to go and buy a Who album after hearing Who's Next Play.
The guitarist was even doing windmills and the drummer was simply excellent all night. The bass player played a fantastic guitar solo and was a good addition to the rest of the band. My favourite songs were from the medley of Tommy including Pinball Wizard and Amazing Journey. Also included were Graceland and Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere and they had everyone singing Who Are You?
Although the locals got a bit restless due to the late start and an unexpected interval everyone agreed the band were excellent and they wished they had more time to hear more. The band apparently wanted to make a spectacular entrance. The performance was also enhanced by the light display creating swirls and tunnels along with the music. The band first formed in 2003 and have toured extensively. The next day they were off down to Weymouth.” Well worth a look if you catch them in the area again even if you are not normally a Who fan.
