Introducing... Acme Live
New, Swindon-based live event promoters
Thu 17 Mar 2011 13:23
We're pleased to announce our first show on Wednesday, April 6th at The 12 Bar, Swindon. Tickets are just £3 each.

Headlining will be Germany's Smile And Burn, with support from Swindon's own High Hopes and The Cold Harbour.

Smile And Burn appear as part of their 2011 UK Tour to support their newly released album, 'Flight Attempt Of The Kiwi':

Serving up a succulent selection of pop-punk tunes, Berlin-based Smile And Burn are set to give their musical peers a run for their money with their delicious debut effort 'Flight Attempt Of The Kiwi'.

The German quintet, who are signed to Fond Of Life Records, hurl themselves into the upbeat record with 'Dear Shepherd'. The melodic tune is exciting and offers listeners raw punk-style vocals, gnarly group chants and fast-paced guitars.

Whilst 'We're Still Not Getting Anywhere' and 'I'll Burn The Rabbit Hole' both tread similar ground to the album opener, Smile And Burn successfully make each song sound fresh and original.

Proving that they are not afraid to experiment with their music, tracks like 'Second To None' and 'Self-Defeating 101' see the five-piece tinker with the heavier elements of pop-punk, quite reminiscent of Statesiders Four Year Strong.

Other highlights of the 11-track release include the effervescent 'Tootles Has Returned To London', lyrically strong 'Point Blank' and punk-laden '50 Frags Win The Match'.

Ticking all the boxes, 'Flight Attempt Of The Kiwi' is a refreshing record that is both sprightly and superbly structured, fans of The Wonder Years and This Time Next Year will love this, as will followers of older acts like Strike Anywhere and Good Riddance.

Smile And Burn are a brilliant band that stand out significantly from the generic groups that are swarming today's pop-punk scene. With a UK tour planned for April, these guys are definitely ones to keep an eye on in the next few months.

Big thanks to everyone who came out and supported our first show at The 12 Bar.

Both local bands played a blinder and Smile And Burn delivered a faultless show. They were really impressed with the venue and crowd and seemed to love Swindon. All good news.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out and came down to the show. Here's to the next one...

I see you have Who's Driving? Bear's Driving! - they played for me last weekend in Devizes, and went down a storm. Story Cut Short, who you have supporting Middle Finger Salute supported on that occasion.

Good vibes chap, we'll try and bring a few to both shows, for those bands, from Devizes

Noticed they were playing your show, glad it went well. Their show with Hey! Alaska should be awesome as we've also got two brilliant local supports on that date.

Was really impressed with Story Cut Short's track on their Facebook page, looking forward to seeing them in Swindon.

Just finalising a second show in June, looks like being an absolute corker - a bit different to what we've got booked for the rest of the year so far and will hopefully prove of some interest for Swindon Music regulars.

Such a stunning line up! And balls of steel for having 3 out-of-town bands on a 4 band bill!

I will be at this for sure!

Looks like you need 2 Sick Monkeys for that September show too ; ) punk as fuck!

Thanks man!

So looking forward to all of the bands, but I have a sneaky feeling that the Cuba Cuba set is going to become one of those, 'I was there' moments in the future. Can't wait.

We're a totally not-for-profit promoter, so really hope that the true music fans of Swindon turn out in force for this show - as you say, the line-up truly is sublime. The more people that show up, the more money we have to bring even more bands of this quality to Swindon.

Good call about the Sept show...

Just confirmed a seriously good booking for January 2012. The details are embargoed until the full tour is announced officially but it's going to be a fine start to the new year!
