What a dismal waste of so much money, talent and effort. Truly tedious and unremarkable in every way, other than the laughably poor dialogue.

The single best thing to have come out of this film being made is a user question about it on IMDB:

"Is Tron based on a true story?"

Strange. I really enjoyed it, purely on the basis of amazing big-screen visuals, a pumping great soundtrack and a personal love for geeky philosophy. It's not for film buffs mind you. Acting? Plot? Nada.

Out of interest, where did you see the film? I didn't think it was still being shown in cinemas.

I saw this a couple of days ago and it did nothing for me. The CGI is great, but its all so samey that after being initially impressed, I switched off as the film was just mor and more of the same. All those clean efficient lines and black neon in every scene; it was like how Vegas might look like if the Germans had built it. Overall I found it slow and it just didn't hold my attention. Myself and my housemate were bored by halfway. Bit of a stinker unless you're a fan of this sort of thing.

Did you see this in a cinema?

No I didn't. Granted it would have been better in the cinema though, everything is.

Ah. Didn't realise it was out on DVD yet 8 )

I saw the full 3D big-screen monty - as did this reviewer and he says...
"In that moment and others like it, everything in the movie clicks together and the film moves beyond plot and storytelling to soar beyond imagination, flashing across the screen like lightning connecting directly with your brain. In moments like those, when Tron: Legacy stops thinking and simply exists in the world it’s created, Kosinski’s movie feels unbelievably special. " He does go on to say however; "if only those moments could last the entire film" I agree completely.

Maybe not getting the full effect of the visuals, audio and general hi-res experience explains why it disappoints. A well acted story it is definitely not, but on the big screen, I thought it was a fantastic piece of brain candy.

And similarly, you can't cheaply copy and distribute one over the internet.

Ignore me. I'm just a sucker for big pretty lights and visceral cinematics.

I saw it on US Blu-Ray. I have a 1080p projector and a sound system that, if anything, is more detailed and accurate than the average 10 year old multiplex. The viewing experience doesn't have quite the impact of a real cinema, but the screen size to viewing distance ratio is actually not too far off. And there's no little shits dropping their drinks on the floor every five minutes (unless I've overdone the wine).

TRON:Legacy was, like Inception, one of those films that I knew would give the system a complete workout. And it did. I have no complaints at all about the visuals and audio quality, it's absolutely state-of-the-art.

However, unlike Inception, the appalling dialogue, horrendous 'Zen' bullshit (sadly, it seems Bridges is to blame for that), the terrible characters (Martin Sheen's every second on screen provides the biggest cringe of 2011 thus far) and the general sense that all of the participants weren't even trying to make it seem credible combined to make it a total misfire IMO.

Even Daft Punk's appearance only served to show it's possible to act badly even when nobody can see you and you don't even say anything.
