Advice on Amp head may need looking at?
Did sound screwed...now sounds fine...

so...gig sunday night, i did the stupid stupid helpful bloke thing of lending my bugera 333xl to another band because another band who were meant to be supplying combos all night decided to take them with them with 2 bands left...

i set it up and turned it on for him, and made sure i let him know 'you break it, you've bought it' type thing.

not long after he started playing it to get levels, it was making some horrid scratchy sounds, i straight away jumped up there to find out what was going on, tried different leads, guitars, still making those sounds...

to us it sounded like a problem with the preamp valves, as if the lead had been pulled before switching to standby... the kid to be fair has offered to pay for replacements when i've taken it in to have it checked over...

but earlier today i thought i'd try it with my gear and my setup, absolutley fine.... gave it a good test, and no hint of any problem..

so what do people suggest? should i be happy its seeming to be fine and was just throwing a hissy fit? or should i take it to someone for a check over, make sure theres no underlying problem?

at least i learnt one thing, never, ever, ever, lend out good equipment!

What do you mean by "scratchy"?

Did you try different power sockets? Could be an issue with the venue's power or issues with that socket...

Oh and always lend out good equipment, otherwise people never learn!

Get it checked. Always a plan if you get bad noises.

if you tried other leads on the night and it works fine with your gear it could simply be a dodgy jack socket/electrics on his guitar/effects - did the problem occur with any other instrument?

yeh i tried my guitar through it on the night and it still made strange sounds...

had band practice last night and it was fine all the way through....

who would be best to take it to to get it checked over? and how would they check it over?

Lending equipment to other bands is almost always a good idea; funnily enough, people like nice people. It's good for your image and in future it means they're more likely to help you/offer you a gig/say nice things about you to others.

oh i do agree, dont get me wrong, im always lending out my cab, leads, etc

but there are a lot of people who dont respect other peoples gear when they borrow it, i.e. recent 12 bar gig with eye for an eyes kick drum being borrowed and broken...

might just need to be a bit more vigilant in future

It just sounds like a dodgy power issue (As in not getting enough) rather than the amp itself, not necessarily worth getting it checked out unless it's happening elsewhere. If there was an issue with the amp, it wouldn't suddenly start working fine the next day.
