So, it's finally upon us.

Great opener. Easily one of the best horror-oriented productions I've seen on TV. They have a slightly different perspective on the zombie/human relationship and interaction that I thought worked really well - it's like both parties are just deeply sad at what's happened, rather than the humans just being terrified all the time and the zombies being relentlessly vicious and violent.

Only slight logical problem was the period that the main guy was in a coma. He was still able to walk unaided, which means it couldn't have been more than a week to 10 days and yet the clock battery had stopped, the entire population had been affected and his wife had already shacked up with his mate. Hmm.

There some amazing touches throughout, mainly in terms of what they don't do (thus avoiding being predictable and following the mainstream cinema horror conventions of the last decade or two).

Overall: loved it.

You really need to read the comic of this..or the trades at least.

One of the best books around. Telling the tale of human survival amongst a zombie take over.

You get pulled into the human interaction and lives and tend to forget about the zombies, but they pop up attack someone and then change the whole dynamics of the story...Brilliant

I want to like it (and may yet) - but couldn't help but mentally tick-off Day Of The Triffids, 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, Survivors etc - not just in the events but in the actual shots (which is maybe what triggered each of them thinking about it)

Even the scenes that are probably about becoming sympathetic with the characters (the guy sniping (or not) his missus and Egg from This Life putting the crawling torso out of it's misery) look too computer-gamey to be engaging.

Maybe I was just in the wrong mood, the final scene in the city was very well done though - don't mind admitting I was at least *near* the edge of my seat lol . Plus the Doc from Prison Break, how *you* doin' ...

I think it's great. It's not really straying too far form the classic formula, but it doesn't do that cheesy George A Romero b-movie stuff.

I remember watching 28 Days Later, and thinking, s**t this is a RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP off of day of the triffids, they must of paid for that... Only to be greeted with, the exact intro. So was very disappointed by that, almost like there isn't any other way to open such a film, or that every new take felt the predecessor didn't do the idea justice!

But I watched the first two, and thought it was good. What concerns me is that it's a series, and there's no definite end in sight... How long will they string it out for?!

(i'm completely ignorant of the comics / books. I haven't read any, or even knew of them!)

I think the comic book has been running for 6 or 7 years so I wouldn't hold your breath. I don't have FX so I haven't seen any of it yet. : (

Season 2 (a 13 episode run) has been officially greenlit. I'm glad, as we're already half way through S1 and I can't see how they could wrap anything up in 3 hours. Mind you, given the overal story, there are only a couple of scenarios they could end it with.

Me too. According to friends who have read them all, the TV version is painstakingly faithful in some respects but also has nothing to do with the comics in others (for example, there are prominent characters in the TV show that don't even exist in the comic).

Watched Ep3 last night, still loving it.

The comics are planned to run for 100 issues so normally 12 issues a year which means 8 years currently at around 6 1/2 years

not watched ep1 yet may do it tonight, but if you have not read the books you have to, cannot do the show justice if you have not got the proper in on the original version

Thanks for the offer dude but I caught up with the first four episodes at the weekend. I thought it was awesome, much better production values than I initially expected. Plus it was brutal, even by zombie movie standards!

My son woke up last night screaming about Zombies... maybe it wasn't a good idea to let him watch it?

Anyways, quite liking it. Though as some one mentioned, very few endings can be had from this... Kinda sorry it's got a second series. Like LOST - I wish they would just write and wrap up a proper good TV series and leave it at that.

I dunno, I think there’s a bit of mileage in it yet. I wouldn’t like to see them do a “Lost” on it, but I think it’s got legs for another series. They could finish up on an island in some unaffected or cleaned area and be left alone to rebuild society somewhere while the zombie population slowly dwindles… Whilst working in some faux poignancy about man’s ability to both create and destroy in equal measure… Or some bollocks like that. I’d be happy with that. As long as it doesn’t deviate from the original plan too much (i.e. nearly everyone’s dead and there’s zombies everywhere) it’ll be alright. I wouldn’t like to see it turn into Resident Evil with new, all improved zombie killing machines evolving so they can drag every additional penny out of the franchise, killing off it’s credibility in the process..

I’ve never read the comics, so I don’t know what happens in the original story.
