I don't think you can have a problem with people using the classifieds; that's what they're there for, after all. I've started countless threads about music on this forum and most of them have been popular, but since the forum has gone downhill a bit, there's not enough activity to have a decent discussion, so you think 'why bother?' It's nobody's fault; it's just the way things have gone. And it's inevitable that when someone starts being a tool, people are going to pipe up. Anyway, your Mercury Prize thread has several replies now (including one from me), so keep your chin up, eh!

Very true, I guess I was being a bit flippant mixed with a touch of weariness. I think the point was really that classifieds used to be a practical bolt on to the main discussions now it's becoming the raison d'etre, but like you say, no one to blame.

Peaks and troughs, I think it will pick up again, there's still a core of music fans who read the forum, however not so many of them are posting at the moment.

I feel quite strongly about local music forums. Without the combined efforts of the Swindon Music Forum (and prior to that both the 4th Street and Furnace forums) I'd have never started promoting gigs when I moved back to Swindon in 2005 (well that and a fair bit of encouragement from Dust, Shaun Buswell and Dave Young). ......cue some witty comment from Mr Franklin

I suspect quite a few people still "browse" the forum they just don't bother posting because it's been so quiet.
