For me what's killing this site is the fact that it rarely talks about music beyond the classified ads level but also the fact that trolling is on the up, I personally have found stuff that I have written on here used on other sites without my permission and the place seems to have lost any sense of musical community. It has all the usual negatives of a forum without really having any of the positives.
I agree with this, especially the last sentance. no one really wants to sign up for a site just to argue with people over trivial things (it happens).

I think that there are other factors also. Forums are all very well but I think that the site needs bigger incentives to draw people in, without that you are really only left with a localised application that provides nothing that can't be done through Facebook..chat, gig promo etc. I think if this place had features, music, reviews etc it might bring more people in, but it's a time factor. This has been discussed many times so we don't need to dissect it all again.
I whole heartedly agree but it's a time issue. I've always encouraged people to contribute to the site, probably spoken to half of you at around beer 3 stage where it starts to sound like a good idea but life gets in the day.

As has just been pointed out it's all about supply and demand and with FB overshadowing lots of more specialised sites, to increase traffic it needs to start doing something different, something people can't get on FB and the like.
With you completely.

I think the Shuffle this year is an indicator of a change of the guard in Swindon, its the first time in the last few years where you can look at the weekends bill and not know at least half the bands! For good or bad, the last few years on the live circuit in Swindon (not just the Shuffle) has been a rotation of the same bands and people (me included!!). It does genuinely feel different again, theres a "who was that" atmosphere to it all. Suddenly its a list of bands that the old gits on here (again, me included!!) dont know or havent seen yet. They will be the next generation of Swindon Music forum posters, and a few years down the line they will go through the same questions and analysis that we are all doing now.
So no, I dont blame Facebook - in fact, Facebook is where this forum should be shouting to get the attention of the new young whippersnappers and bring them over here.
While Facebook lets all your friends know what your band is doing, this forum has the potential to let everyone and anyone know what your band is doing.
Sounding like a broken record now but I agree. I went to watch Young Guns at the furnace a while back and it was great to see lots of kids about (similar to the people who first enhabited this forum, Area 51, Any Day Now, Ducktape, Burried Beneath etc?), felt like there was a bit of a scene going on there again. Maybe steps need to be made to attract these and get the new blood involved.
