I dont see this as a bad thing, it's basically natural selection applied to internet functions. This site continues to serve a purpose, but for a lot of things it is obviously easier to reach more people through facebook.

I think that there are other factors also. Forums are all very well but I think that the site needs bigger incentives to draw people in, without that you are really only left with a localised application that provides nothing that can't be done through Facebook..chat, gig promo etc. I think if this place had features, music, reviews etc it might bring more people in, but it's a time factor. This has been discussed many times so we don't need to dissect it all again.

Also when you look at the nature of the postings, a lot of the time most of what is being posted are either classified adds or non music related anyway, at the moment the site is falling between a rock and a hard place. As has just been pointed out it's all about supply and demand and with FB overshadowing lots of more specialised sites, to increase traffic it needs to start doing something different, something people can't get on FB and the like. For now it's just a chat room, a fairly quiet one at that.

I don't spend much time hear these days, but thats more to do with certain members unethical use of posted content, something which unfortunatley goes hand in hand with the internet.

Facebook is a pain in the a**. Period.

I'm so pleased to now be facebookless. Just my opinion.

I dont think Facebook is killing this forum, I just think that its in one of the cyclical phases where the post count is down.
I think the Shuffle this year is an indicator of a change of the guard in Swindon, its the first time in the last few years where you can look at the weekends bill and not know at least half the bands! For good or bad, the last few years on the live circuit in Swindon (not just the Shuffle) has been a rotation of the same bands and people (me included!!). It does genuinely feel different again, theres a "who was that" atmosphere to it all. Suddenly its a list of bands that the old gits on here (again, me included!!) dont know or havent seen yet. They will be the next generation of Swindon Music forum posters, and a few years down the line they will go through the same questions and analysis that we are all doing now.
So no, I dont blame Facebook - in fact, Facebook is where this forum should be shouting to get the attention of the new young whippersnappers and bring them over here.
While Facebook lets all your friends know what your band is doing, this forum has the potential to let everyone and anyone know what your band is doing.

Anyway, I like Facebook. I use it to trawl through everyones friends photos looking for foxy chickadees.

I only realised how much of an old git I am, at the shuffle when numerous people asked me if I had a facebook account. Without one I still managed to attract an entourage of 20something new followers, hope I remembered to tell em about my gig next weekend, they ain't gonna get it off facebook are they 8 )
