Songs that remind you of times/places/people?
Wed 7 Jul 2010 16:04
Just listened to Tunnels by Arcade Fire and, what with Funeral being a poolside favourite of mine at the time, it immediately reminded me of a holiday in Ibiza in '05. Great tune and holiday. Anyone got any songs that remind them of specific things/times; even ones that you wouldn't even enjoy were it not for their association with good memories?

Great thread!

The album that really gets my memory going is Mogwai's Cody. It provokes such fond memories of my first year at college with all the gang. Super times.

+1. Makes me go a bit teary, to be honest. Another good 'un is Mr. Blue Sky - reminds me of bombing down to Pompey in my first car to catch up with a uni-bound mate.

The first Stone Roses album reminds me of my time at New College studying for my A-levels which also included a coach trip to London to see the band play at Alexandra Palace, it's like an audio photo album and it triggers so many memories.

ELO's "Mr Blue Sky" reminds me of my wedding reception, it got played about a million times

oh and the 12" mix of The Sisters Of Mercy's "Temple of Love" reminds me of dancing badly at Level 3 at varying times in the late 80s/early 90's

there are many more but that'll do for now

Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkle. It was played at my Dads funeral on the way in.
Hanky Panky by Madonna. It was played at my Dads funeral on the way out.

Mega City Four - Tranzophobia
Senseless Things - Postcard C/V

I was 15 and trekking in Nepal in 1992, I has one tape for my walkman at it featured the above two bands, one album each side (with some classic PWEI to fill up the spaces at the end.. What's so fucking good about Candy?).. Takes me straight back there even now.

Berlinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth

Reminds me of when I lived in Germany - despite being released when I lived in York, nearly a year later!

Weird!

Anything by Idlewild reminds me of my courting years with my wife... And Ten Benson reminds me of Steve Lamaque's evening session!

Great thread!

1976 on tour on the East Coast of US. Simon and Garfunkel's "America" came on the van radio....

When the line "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike.." came on we all yelled... because we we're on the Turnpike doing just that...

"All gone to look for America" - hell yeah!

And, I can tell you what the next song was as well - "Mellow Yellow" Donovan!

Short terrm memory shot to bits - long term full of useless sh*t !!!

I've seen quite a few quirky comments thrown into the mix all over the place on this site and they tend to break up the tone of some of the thread and give everyone something to smile about. Most of the time these amusing comments have some relevence to the subject that they're interjecting on and, therefore, add to the amusement of the comments. Bruno, however, appears to have reached a certain level of genious where he has managed to skip all forms of relevence and humour and go straight for being an unfunny, irrelevent and obnoxious knob. What a guy.

"david watts" - the jam. this song always reminds me of a guy i know called david watts, cos we all used to sing it to him, regardless of whether or not we actually wanted to be like him
