We have 2 attacking-minded full-backs (Johnson and Cole) who are both great defenders, but also bloody quick at getting forwards. Terry & Ferdinand COULD be one of the strongest Centre-Back partnerships at the tournament, provided both stay fit and are mentally right for it. In midfield, we have quality and experience in Gerrard and Lampard as well as the world-class quality of Rooney up front. I think we have some gems in the squad to mix it up (Lennon, Milner, King, Joe Cole) and Capello's expertise to guide us.

Believe!
: )

Well for a start Johnson/Cole will probably get forward too much and get caught out at the back. Our CB offering is pretty poor. Terry has had a season of turmoil, Rio is now injured but he has been for pretty much the whole season anyway and let's be honest he's been utter wank for Man U so no big loss there for me. Upson is not WC standard, Carragher is just an idiot who only came back because Liverpool are shite. He doesn't care about playing for England. He's already proved that.

How many times have we talked about Gerrard and Lampard? They can't play together for a start. They don't shine for England and no doubt they never will. Gerrard is not the player he used to be. He's been dire this season and was awful in both warm-up games IMO. Joe Cole? What? I'd rather we took Johnson from Man City. At least he's been playing regular football. Cole isn't the player he once was. Injuries and being at Chelsea haven't helped him at all. I hope he moves on in the summer.

I think Lennon is all pace with no end product. He had a great start to the season but that was soon ruined yet again by injury. I like Milner and King but they are not world class. Only 1 man in our team is and that's going to be a half fit, pretty knackered Wayne Rooney.

Don't even start me on the back up players....utter wank in some areas. I mean Heskey? If you believe we can win this thing then seriously you're going to be dissapointed. Spain and Brazil will walk all over us. We need to play with passion and as a team as well. Can't see it.

One huge bit that people are forgetting is that England once through the group stages won't face any of the big teams people are mentioning until the final.

Brazil
Spain
Holland
Italy
Portugal

can only face England at the very end of the competition.

on our side of the draw we'd probably face a timid and washed up France in the QF, then either Argentina or Germany in the Semis. granted both Argentina and Germany are tough teams but I don't think they're is that much difference between their chances in the tournament and Englands. If we get through that then probably a final against either Brazil, Spain or Holland doesn't seem impossible. An out of form Italy proved last time that in a final you don't have to be the best team in the world to lift the trophy

I'm not saying its a cert that England will get to the final and win, I do think that they have the sort of draw that will benefit the players and each game they should be able to build their confidence up. Then the hardest game they'll probably face isn't until the Semis.

What puzzles me more than Heskey's place in the squad is the fact that people seem to feel obliged to explain why we won't win the world cup. Everyone must be aware of this by now, I'd rather just enjoy the football than talk about how Lampard and Gerrard can't play together. On Saturday I'm going round a friends for a few beers, typical rain soaked british barbeque and a game of football. Hell, even if we lose we'll give the tournament a damn good go on the xbox after!

Absolutely. It's going to be a great month of football, even if England falter early on. Just enjoy it!
