England's 30-man provisional squad
Announced today
Tue 11 May 2010 14:22
Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock.

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Tom Huddlestone, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Forwards: Darren Bent, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.

I would drop Darren Bent, Hudlestone, Warnock... Otherwise I am stuck.

Bent's a great choice. Carragher deserves to go about as much as I do.

King is over-rated, and cant play more than a few minutes a week and is too slow.

Joe Cole has done f**k all, all season

Walcot, Lennon & SWP are basically the same player so at least one of them wont go

Carragher is s**t and over the hill

Johnson is a massive gamble

Parker, Baines, Warnock & huddleston arent good enough

Ferdinand is a massive doubt

So it'll be business as usual, then Rooney will get injured and the English media will over hype the team and we'll go out in the quarters as ever.

So on that basis Dude this is your team

Hart

Johnson, Terry, Dawson, A Cole

Milner, Lampard, Barry, Gerrard

Rooney, Crouch

Defoe to come on for Rooney if he is injured

Looks ok to me, good choice : )

Do we have anyone better than those?

oops thing I just reported your post rather than replying : (

Barry is a massive injury doubt I think, so Gerard could go center with Milner left and Lennon right.

But yeah its pretty spot on for me, although I can see James starting between the sticks for experience.

Not my choice 11, but was just working out who we had left after your post.

I'm not sure i could think of anyone better to put in that 30 who is fit.
Zamora ruled himself out of the 30 because of his injury, thats not to say he could still make the 23 though if he gets himself fit.

My god you are so SO wrong. Played more football than Ferdinand this year, and has been outstanding against the top forwards in the PL. I'd rather have him there than JT or Rio.

I agree. I'd also like to add a prediction that Villa are going to be getting a fair few offers from European clubs for James Milner after this World Cup.

Yeah, he looks class. Think he could be a star in the finals.

Remember Milner was at Swindon on loan from Leeds? Good player. Looks quite a good team/ Why aren't Drogba, fabregas and Arshevin in the squad?

Adam Johnson and Tom Huddlestone both smack of international calibre to me. The football played in the WC is a totally different animal to the prem, particularly the group stages. I can see those two doing very well, if they get to play of course.

Parker [and others] arent good enough

Have you seen him play this season?! He's been absolutely immense in a below-par side.

Yeah totally. Johnson is one of the few City signings that has genuinely impressed me this year - yes, the stamina is a worry but his delivery is superb, he has a hell of a shot on him and he's an unknown quantity to the other teams.

And don't get me started on Huddlestone... I know I'm biased as a Spurs fan but the guy is MADE for international football. There is a lot more time to operate in midfield and with his vision and range of passing, he could be the most important player we have. Wont get played though....

Lampard has to play, Gerrard? Tough call. Great player but he's been shite this year. Milner is a must for me, as is Lennon. So who gets dropped? And if Heskey makes the final 23 I'm supporting Brazil. I admire his workrate but he is a total donkey in front of goal!

No Ashley Young? No Zamora? And Carragher? wtf?

Parker is a good call, as is King - if he can stay fit... On fitness - Barry?

Not holding any aspirations - we don't ever seem to pick players in form, but stick with names, and poor pairings. Gerrard / Lampard anyone?

I am going to say it.. It has landed me lots of negative responses from people elsewhere but I think Gaz Neville definitely needs to go to south africa in some capacity. Definitely more so than carragher does anyway.

Crouch and Rooney need to form a dynamic duo... Agreed that Heskey is a donkey. Don't know why England managers all love him so much.
