I do get Deluk's point and have to admit I do sometimes feel the same way and questioning what the point is, but always realise that if I'm giving up, I can't truly believe in what I'm doing at all and just got to get on with it, work out what I can do better and do it.
Can't sit back and blame everyone else or the town.

The Citizens are really pleased to be playing this year. It is the day after my wedding which will be interesting ;o)
Thu 10 Jun 2010 16:06
I applied to play in 2007, 2008 and 2009. I applied to play on The Shuffle stage at Sugarhill in 2007 and 2008. All unsuccessful. This year I was successful with Lydia Twenty. In previous years I was...to coin a phrase...'gutted' not to be playing. When I heard we were playing this year, I was overjoyed.

The Shuffle is THE local festival highlighting some fantastic acts. Some you may like, some you may not. We in Lydia twenty are proud to have been selected and will try and raise our game accordingly.

I have to admit that the line up looks pretty good. Obviously disappointed that we're not taking part, but hey that's how it is sometimes I suppose. Was a bit annoyed about the "your shit" comment, but then a pinch of salt was handed my way! I then applied this tincture, dowsing my tears with the previously mentioned salty solute. Everything is now ok. : )

if you are refering to my use of the word moron aimed at Puttyfoot, it probably helps if you realise that the man on the receiving end of the comment is a very good friend of mine and it would then be apparent that it is just to good mates bantering. If I was to say anything to upset the guy he could actually kill me with one sweep of his arm and my still do so...if you don't hear from me after tomorrow, it will be because he has taken umbrage with my comments and I am lying in a shallow grave just out side Lydiard.

As to you generalisation that the people on this forum don't go and watch the bands they are talking about, I for one am either watching or playing alongside at least three or four bands a week on average.

As for the comment about "friends of the committee" having more than one band playing, ask yourself this. Do I get to play more gigs because I am friends with certain key people on the music scene, or is it because I play a lot of gigs that I got to know those people? I would also like to add that neither Sweet Plums nor BSA could in any way be called "my band", they are bands I was asked to join by those putting it together. The only band that really can be called "my band" is Hotel 75 and we didn't make the cut. I only add this because I know I was singled out as an example of nepotism at some point in the original conversation.

I think we all know where this post stems from, it was especially nice of the person you are representing to actually threaten that there would be "trouble" if any of his impassioned rant from last night ended up being caught on film by the promo guys who were randomly collecting footage. Nice touch, how to make friends and influence people eh?

Reply to Post 68725 by RhythmMaster in Swindon Shuffle 2010 I applied to play in 2007, 2008 and 2009. I applied to play on The Shuffle stage at Sugarhill in 2007 and 2008. All unsuccessful. I think it's important people realise that just because a band/musician doesn't make it one year it doesn't mean they won't in future years and fair play for taking not making the line up in previous years in good spirits and still supporting the event Sean, it's good that you've got the chance to play this year... enjoy!!

I should add that this whole "friends of friends" accusation is complete nonsense, I've several people I consider good friends who are members of Hotel 75 and The Blowbacks, neither of which are playing this year. Short of making the festival a 7 day event we were never going to be able to please everyone. I respect people's feelings and can appreciate there will people out there who are upset they've not made the final line up, I was in several bands whilst living in Oxford and we didn't get to play the likes of The Punt and Truck despite applying most years so I'm not trying to come across as patronising.

The selection process for the Shuffle was a fair and democratic one, there are several acts I wanted to play who haven't ended up on the line up and that's fair enough, it was never meant to be about just what one member of the committee wanted, it was about several views being listened to to ensure that all acts were given a fair hearing.

if you are playing be happy, if you arent playing then use it as inspiration to really up your game for next year.
Its not a conspiracy, its not nepotism, its not a clique. Heres an idea... maybe some names pop up regularly simply because they are that bloody good that they deserve to be playing! Putting someone new, but poor quality, in at the expense of an old face who wows the crowd is stupid. The purpose of the whole thing is charity and fun, not ego massaging for any of us.
And stamping of feet is twattish. Slagging off a scene that 48hrs ago you wanted to be in is twattish.
Toxic Delerium seems to have got it right, hes gutted but hes positive. Thats how it should be.
And thats the bottom line, cos Stone Cold said so.

I don't like to bad mouth the Shuffle as it does do good work, but I have to say that some of the comments I have read on this thread are disgusting. To call bands 'S**t' or 'morons' I actually find offensive. I know from personal experience that there are bands not playing this year that are gutted to have yet again not gone on the billing, but have been catergorised by people in this topic as stated above - would be nice if some of you so-called music fans and promoters that are meant to be passionate about music and so-say know it all about the Swindon music scene actually bothered once in a while to come and see some of the bands live that you are branding so negatively.

I cannot see how you can fairly judge what a band is like from a myspace or other website mp3 when this is just a select listing of tracks that may (and I know this to be fact in one or too cases) not show the full potential of the band as they can't currently afford or get the time to record newer stuff.

I for one attend many gigs in Swindon and I can honestly say that some bands I've heard on myspace have not performed as well live and some much better. I think it just shows that you don't know a band til you see them perform and you cannot fairly judge. I may be an outsider to whatever 'elite' groups you refer to, but I know for a fact that I love my music, I love going to gigs and not just the ones that 'my mates are in' which seem to happen a lot in this town.

I suggest before anyone critises the effort or performance of a band - especially if they are not in one themselves - actually bothers to go and see someone other than their just their mates or a band that someone else says is good... Try finding things out for yourself before you critise.

I will be attending the Shuffle this year and I see that there are (as it has been so well put) only 23 bands that have been on it before, but having attended every single Shuffle since it started, the same listings are starting to get a bit boring. There is so much more out there.

I feel for anyone who applied who didn't make it, especially when I saw the listing and see that some 'friends' of the committee have more than one band playing. I am not saying that the choices were not fairly done, but maybe taking a view from someone elses standpoint might show you that the bands kicking up actually have a fair point. The only ones not complaining are the ones that have got on with one or more bands that they are in or those that played last year.... oh and the year before.

May its time for people to get off their soap box and appreciate the diversity of music around Swindon and not just stick to what they know. Its hard for every band out there whether they are established or not, but it would be good to go to some gigs in this town where I'm not one of only 5 people who can be bothered to show up - try something different, you might surprise yourselves. Oh, and just because one person thinks something is 'S**t' many others might enjoy it... if that wasn't the case, some amazing bands; Rush, The Who, Kiss, Queen, Metallica and others would not be where they are today.

Well done to those who did get in, I hope a lot of money is raised for two worthy causes.

Rant over. : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : )

This is not being Sarcastic in anyway honestly.
Can you tell me about the bands you love watching around here who are not playing the shuffle this year, I'm always up for listening to new music of any kind.

Just like to point out a few things:
1. Lazarus - my comments were not aimed at you....
2. I am impartial to this and speaking an opinion - not representing anyone or anyone elses opinions, merely voicing my own..... If I was representing someone else, believe me I'd have the guts to say it.
3. Don't know what video fottage you talking about
4. I wasn't at the Vic last night...

Loads going on here, but I just wanted to clear one thing up...

The Shuffle committee only had one representative on the selection panel, the rest were representatives from venues and local media to try to make even more considered and impartial choices.

dont worry i just said that to give you a stur up , i know the dangers of a bass headstock , and so does my singer when he walks into it .

i am not sure about the power of a mandolin tho.

I have been trying to help TD get some gig's with us , and will keep going till I get one.

but you would'nt know about that I keep my stuff under the radar till I know its going to happen.

and I am starting up an electrionic band , maybe some dance , as dance is king atm.

I am always working on my music in what free time i have , playing my bass or gutiars, making up riffs also note down what i have done .

The Ashun are planing an ep release soon too , just got to put the right songs on it from our 12

I might be there that night , as you have seen us lazurs , depends if i am at a gig or a prac .
