Tiny Terror and pedals
Wed 21 Apr 2010 19:58
Hi everyone

Anyone ever had good experiences with the orange tiny terror and distortion pedals ? As i cant seem to be able to get the order right . What ever i do using the boss blues driver i've got leaves the signal very muddy almost to fuzz level.

Need big help here as my covers band has gigs lined up and i cant do it sounding like shite .

Failing this anyone wanna swop for a tiny terror head?

Shoving it on ebay isn't going to help you at all, just going to end up spending more money and still end up in the same situation.

If the amp sounds fine by itself, then you've got the wrong pedal, not the wrong amp. Anyway, muddiness is caused by too much bass prior to distortion, so it could even be the guitar's fault depending on how your pickups are set up and what you use.

Also, are you actually sat directly facing the front of the speaker? That's your sound, stood over, behind, to the side, in a different room etc isn't how it sounds. It's quite easy to think you sound muddy when in fact you don't. Why do you think mic'ing up an amp often sounds nicer off-axis?

I would give a boost pedal a try. I have an MXR micro amp which basically boosts the volume of the guitar, which will then push the tiny terror into distortion. This should effectively give you two channels.

You might even be able to use your blues driver to do the same thing. Turn the gain down to zero, and adjust the volume to the point where it's boosting the signal to push the amp harder.

only just seen this - HAze is right, and here's why:
the Blues Driver is a good pedal but has 2 characteristic that make it not ideal for some people (although I like em):

1. The tone section is wired as a traditional Fender tonestack (same circuit values as the tone controls in lots of fender amps) but with the bass and middle on full, leaving you the treble control from a traditional fender circuit to play with. When you run this at high levels and/or high gain the low end can become overpowering (depending on the amp)
2. The components used aren't the highest quality and you can get that fuzz-ish sound at high gain settings on the pedal (despite the name there is a fair bit of gain on tap, certainly more than on a tubescreamer type pedal)

The Keely and Monte Allums (and various other DIY versions you can google) mods fix these things and make it an awesome pedal.

Alternatively try somethgin tubescreamer-circuit-based - you may well fare better (eg a TS9, Boss SD-1, Digitech CM-2 etc)
