The Blowbacks on BBC Oxford Introducing
'sneaking in through the back door...'
Mon 8 Feb 2010 20:57
Hey folks, for any of you that might be interested - one of our tunes, Scrape Me Off The Ceiling, got played on BBC Oxford Introducing at the weekend as part of their phonebox demo challenge thing, where they call a phone box and play snippets of songs to whoever answers the phone and whichever one the person likes best gets played in full - needless to say our tune was the one that got picked by the dude on the phone... : )

It's worth a listen if you've got nothing better to do, if only to hear the host explaining that The Blowbacks 'snuck in the back door'. I think he was referring to the fact that we're from Swindon not Oxford, although it may have been a veiled reference to our drummer's penchant for bum sex, who knows?! : )

You have some Oxford link though to be fair seeing as Gareth lives on the Oxfordshire border

Brilliant to see some radio support for such a great band!!

nice work! Track sounds ace. If you get any oxford reviews, then expect the usual Oxford snootyness due to the fact that you don't have a flugelhorn in your lineup, and don't play any songs in 5/12 time. Not to mention the fact that half your band are from Swindon.... : )

Just listening to the chat after the track.... They really labour the "local band" point, don't they, and how incredibly lucky you were to get your track played.... 8 )

Such cynicism Neil! But yeah, I would've expected it to get panned to be honest, since it's basically just a straightahead pop tune... Was pleasantly surprised! : )

Having been in a Swindon/Oxfordshire hybrid band, this is my experience also.

Hard earned cynicism as you know

Maybe the Blowbacks could be a breath of fresh air in the Oxford scene, which does seem to have an oh-so-clever edge to it at the moment. I'd try to get in contact with the elusive Joal at the wheatsheaf. He's still there, and I'm certain he'd give you a gig.

Good call Neil, Joal is originally from Swindon isn't he? sure he is, good bloke, used to give my old band Boxtheatre gigs at The Elm Tree on Cowley Rd.
