The Cure
Where to start?
Sat 6 Feb 2010 11:28
One of those bands I've never heard much by, but everything I've heard is class, and Robert Smith's voice is a thing of wonder. Anyone care to recommend an album to start with?

The Very Best Of The Cure, easily their best record mate.

The Head On The Door is a good way in; shortish album, ace ACE tunes, both poppy and brooding!

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is my favourite - double album, stylistically the most diverse work they ever did, fucking GREAT songs throughout, very little filler as far as I'm concerned!

Disintegration - classic and beautiful, but definitely not an album that you can just dip into as such, worth putting aside an hour to hear the whole thing loud through headphones...

Faith - very miserable but very good, beautifully produced for 1981...

Try those, then basically get EVERYTHING up to and including Wish!

I love The Cure

Cheers, great reply! I was listening to Wish earlier and loved what I heard, so ordered that as well as Disintegration. I'll see how I get on with them first. Can't think why I haven't listened to them properly before! Cheers for your input too, Deluk.

The Cure are one of the most underrated bands ever despite their immense success record sales wise.

So many amazing albums

The post-punk years (Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography) is my favourite period, however the band then went on to write some of the best twisted pop music ever on the likes of the Japanese Whispers compilation, The Top, the AWESOME Head On Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me albums.

My favourite Cure album remains Disintegration, it was around that time I first saw them live.

Wish was their last decent album, despite the occasion flash of brilliance they've kinda gone into free fall since then.

but Robert Smith can be forgiven for that given the amount of incredible music he made between 1978 and 1992.

Gotta love The Cure

and they were the most amazing singles band as well, that run of singles from 1978 till 1992 unsurpassed by any other band from that period.

What he said! I already liked Disintegration but Gareth has leant me pretty much the entire back catalogue over the years.

And Simon Gallup is a bass hero!

Not an obsessive so never really investigated the albums much but they have to be up there as one of the greatest singles bands of all time. Just Like Heaven, Close To Me, Inbetween Days, Love Cats, Friday I'm In Love etc etc etc

The Cure are a band that, to be honest, I don't really know that well apart from the obvious big singles but I plan to fix that soon and work thru all the albums. I can't stand "Friday I'm In Love" though - dreadful song.
