Dean Ashton - local lad???

I had no idea until today that Dean Ashton was born in Swindon! I haven't found any explanation as to why he was then raised in Cheshire (RAF family perhaps?). But one for the list alongside Diana Dors, Billie Piper and the Evening Advertiser seller ('Yyyyadver') down by Debenhams (I'm guessing he's long gone? He was about 100 in 1990).

There are a few professional footballers from Swindon, Ben Thatcher (the guy who knocked Pedro Mendez clean out while playing for Man City) comes from Swindon aswell

...and of course Michael Pook.

Indeed. And Northwich Victoria's Ian Herring. Ex-Swindon, scored a pen against Leeds once.
