Distortion Pedals
best grungey, rocky pedal under 115quid

Hi guys . Well after your advice last time about the compression i decided that i didnt really need a compressor to get the sounds i am after .
No what i need is a new distortion pedal.

I curretly use the digitech grunge , which is ok but not exactly the best i could get . Its just a pedal i have settled for due to lack of funds a the time . But with 2 paid gigs on the horizon i will have more funds (upto 115) so i need suggestions.

I'd like a zoom hyper lead as thats the patch i used to use when i owned the multi-fx units . but im not sure if i can get hold of one . Every time i have the bloody money they disappear of ebay !

But i'd like a grungey rocky distortion , with lots of sustain that'll do both Biffy Clyro and feeder , to muse and the foo's

Any ideas ?

Thanks again guys

I tried out a mates MI Audio Crunch Box last week. Great Marshally gain pedal, and very versatile, can easily get the sounds you're after. Think they were around £100 last time i checked.

What amp(s) and guitar(s) are you using?

It all makes a big difference, how my Shredmaster sounds best, my Keeley-esque modded DS1 doesn't and vice versa and that's with the same amp.

All the bands you mentioned mostly use valve amp distortion.

How does the crunch box deal with big chords ? Does it have enough low-end ? I like it though from the youtube clips .

Try a pedal called the Tone Freak Severe. It won a Gold Award in Guitarist magazine and comes in at moderate outlay for a hand-built unit.

Strickly speaking its not a distorion pedal but it would meet your desired grungey sound, see if you can get your hands on a Zoom Ultra-Fuzz. Absolutely stunning pedal capable of terrific fuzzy/distorion sounds but with the added bonus of being able to create the most mental sounds you can get from a non-mega expensive pedal.

Hmm, as you're desperate... (only kidding)

I advertised it here at £55 previously, that's what I'd like. It's as new.

Talking of the Ultra Fuzz, I used to have the whole range of these pedals (Power Drive, Hyper Lead, Ultra Fuzz and Tri Metal) - they are all brilliant. I sold them off when raising cash for something else but re-bought the Hyper Lead as it was so good. I'm just not using it though (in a functions and Blues setting!)

I'm in Rodbourne (near the outlet village) - I've got a rehearsal in Bassett on Thursday night - I suppose I could nip on down to Lyneham aftwards (1030ish) if you're able to nip off and meet me at the gate briefly? If not can you get in to Swindon sometime? If it's all too much faff I could post it to you for free cos I'm nice like that
