Reply to Post 66914 by doza in Formula 1 - 2010 Well they call it the F1 circus, it sure looked like Buemi was in a clown car this morning, i'm sure they'll show it over the weekend. For anyone who can't wait, he hit the brakes & both front wheels flew off, would have been funny if it hadn't had happened at 200mph.

I managed to catch that. Utterly bizzare accident, I've never seen anything like it.

For all those that didnt see it, Here it is.

So did anyone actually watch the race then, I thought it was the best one for ages. According to one F1 website it had more overtaking moves than any race since 1983.

Not so sure next weeks race will be exciting though, I cant even remember the last time anyone overtook on the track at Barcelona, after the first lap anyway. Still as all the top teams seem to be having weekends of mixed fortunes, at least there should be some element of surprise.

I'm looking forward to Monaco, even though i'll be watching it on TV instead of being there, due to my very own financial meltdown. With the traffic problems at Melbourne in qualifying, it almost certainly guarantees a mixed up grid, so the drivers who get caught out will have to overtake or at least try too.

Anyone fancy a stab at a prediction for the championships?

I'll go for Button for the drivers & McLaren for the constructors.

I'd be very happy with that. I think there's more to come out re technical stuff though, read an interesting thing online a week or so ago about how the various ways the races so far have panned out means that we've not seen the true story yet re tyre degradation for example. If I remember right (I'm lost now with all the new tracks) isn't Barcelona very hard on tyres? So maybe we'll see soon...

Not so sure about tyre problems at Barcelona, all the teams( except HRT) tested there for 4 days a couple of weeks before the first race of the season, so they have info as regards this years tyres. I agree with your comments as regards the true picture of who's where, that'll only really become apparent over the next few races, with different types of circuits & teams getting the most out of the upgrades. Should keep it interesting though.

Tim or anyone else who uses this thread, what websites do you use for you F1 info? I generally use F1fanatic & find the forum section on Planet F1 quite informative (there seem to be a few very knowledgable members, amongst the fanboys).

I use the BBC F1 site regularly as well, great site, unfortunately its not always up with the latest news. I really like some of the blogs on there, Jake Humphries one in particular, its from a different perspective from the drivers & serious analysts.

I used to really like F1-live, but not so sure since its been taken over by ESPN. it used to have lots of great pictures from race weekends, I had one of the beer stand I used in Monaco as my PC background for ages.

I don't like the Beeb F1 site, I think the ITV one did it better, although not any more (understandably)
I've surfed on by a couple of sites on and off including Planet F1, and another I forget, but wasn't that taken with them.
Not seen F1 Fanatic before though so taking a look now ta : )

James Allen's blog sometimes has some very good articles - what I like is his stuff is all primary sources and he sticks to what he knows www.jamesallenonf1.com/

Cheers for the James Allen link Tim, unfortunately it ain't working for me at the moment, i've been on the site before though & agree its a good one, shame he isn't still with Martin Brundle instead of the awful Jonathon Legard. James Allen had to follow on from the legend that is Murray Walker & was always going to have a hard time comparison wise, Legard isn't comparable to James Allen. Bring back James Allen.

I read somewhere, cant remember where now, that Lewis Hamilton has made 6 times the amount of overtaking manouveres of any one else, and as they said during commentary at the last grand prix "If you want an exciting race, get Lewis Hamilton to overtake".

My personal thoughts at the moment regarding who may win what is that, although Jenson Button has won two races, it has been down to a good call on his part, whereas Hamilton, whether it was down to his decision or the teams has lost 2 races due to coming in for tyres when he didnt need to, as an example, the Chinese grand prix, Hamilton stops 4 times Butoon 3 and yet Hamilton still finishes only 2 seconds behind Button.

I think if Hamilton can sort out that side of racing and also Qualify a bit better than he has been then he has a very good chance of taking the Drivers, but as Doza has said, I think it is a toss up between Hamilton and Button. But lets not forget how good the Red bUll is this year, Adrian Newey is a fantastic car designer and during the season I can only see those cars getting better.

Remember as well though, that although Button leads the Championship it is only by 10 points and with the current scoring system that is nothing, its like 2 points in the old system.

Role on Barcelona, cant wait.

My opinion is that Red Bull certainly have the fastest car but for various have rarely managed to show that. Vettel will be a champion in the future and it would be hard to bet against him managing it this year, if only his car was more reliable!

As for the Maclaren boys, what is the point in all the overtaking if you cant win a race? Winning a GP isnt solely down to being the fastest, it requires talent on all levels and thus far Button has demonstrated that talent in both qualifying and race results. I will agree that Lewis is the superior racer when he starts to show it.

Note: Dont ignore Alonso though, when he is on it, no one has a chance against him.

Gotta agree with all of that. Hopefully as the season progresses the cars will be more reliable (Red bull) and we will see even more fantastic races.

Last Barcelona weather forcast i've seen suggests showers on Sunday, so could be another mixed bag.

I've also heard that Bruno Senna ( & possibly other drivers) has(ve) asked for Monaco Q1 to be split into 2 sessions to stop traffic problems, b*ll*cks to that, Monaco is only good when you chuck a few variables into the equation. I hope Jenson remembers where to park this year, he only seems to have 2 types of Monaco races, podium or nowhere, he's in a good car this year, so its podium or non finish.

Utter bollocks!

I have been watching F1 for years and I have never sat through such boring rubbish as I have over the last few races. I wont be wasting my Sunday afternoons again.

3 overtakes in 2 hours of racing is just bollocks.

Its Monaco, its only the weather & cock ups that make it interesting, as for Barcelona, I used to record it to use in moments of insomnia, cheer up though, the next couple of races are good for overtaking.
