Yeh, see where you guys are coming from. I have been watching F1 since the early 80's and you are never going to get racing like that again, same as you wont get footballers tackling hard and snooker players headbutting refs etc etc.....Because all sport has so much money involved that any mis-demeanour is immediately replaced with a ban or Sponsorship pullout.

As for no refuelling, you should have seen some of the races when it used ot be like this, they were awesome, but again, would you get away with Senna's old saying nowadays "If you dont let me by there will be a big accident".

I just think, providing one team is not way ahead of the others, that this year is gonna be exciting. I guess we will find out after the first three or four races.

One of the things I wish they would do though is Limit the revs on the engine to say 15,000 and let the cars have more mechanical grip (Wider tyres, bigger rear wing etc etc)......

Wasn't there a race in Spain during the 80's where like 6 cars finished ridiculously close together because they couldn't overtake? 8 )
Difference these days is that all the teams are so much closer to each other and the cars are far better technically.

Well, this is the type of driving you used to get:-

Cant imagine them getting away with that nowadays as they would be crying, well, the stewards would be wetting themselves and ecclestone having a major heart attack. This is when they had mechanical grip.

Well that race bored my stiff.

I do hope the rest of the season has a tiny bit more excitment in it.

I miss when the TOCA touring car championship was regular televised weekend motorsport. Never knew what happened to that though?

Fantastic! I had assumed ITV3 was just emerdale / corrie repeats with the odd strictly breakdancing on ice episode... I will look for this next weekend when the F1 gets dull.

The BTCC is wonderful. It might not have the glamour of F1, but the racing's far more entertaining!

As i heard Chris Evans say the other day "Welcome to the new sport of fuel economy and tyre management". That race was feckin' dull!!!

most boring race i've seen for a while too.

I'll be getting up early next weekend for the Aussie GP, but more out of a sense of annual ritual than uncontrollable excitement.

On the plus side, it was good to see new teams & drivers. I was happy when HRT finally got both cars running, even if they didn't last long. Chandhok was impressive in the way that he got up to speed very quickly in the middle of learning the car & trying to keep out of everyone elses way, all in the middle of qualifying. I bet he can't wait to tell that one to the grandkids.

Also on the HRT front, they've already got a female fan club in West Swindon due to the initials.

Unfortunately I missed the first few laps, will have a look on i player later.

Great race, the bit I did see, made up for the previous one, maybe sprinklers will do the job for future races. I'm sure we'll find out the true state of affairs in Malaysia & China, now that the teams know the tyres will last.

On a positive note for the near future, Monaco should be fun especially qualifying, almost guarenteed a mixed up grid going on the traffic problems in Melbourne. people will have to try to overtake in the race. May be worth a bet on one of the new teams getting a few points there.

I'm not convinced yet - it was cold, and not a lot of high speed corners in Melbourne.
And another hidden tale from Sunday (imho) was that the McLarens seemed to be faring particularly badly on the intermediates - if it hadn't dried when it did, they may have struggled, so worth watching out for I reckon.

The main problem, as I see it is that the new Circuits are pretty s**t with huge run off areas, look at the racing as it used to be at circuits like Mexico and Buenos Ares and you willg et what I mean.

The good races all appear to be at the old style circuits.

Looks like bad weather for Malaysia this weekend, the official F1 website reckons on thunderstorms. Still lets hope it lasts longer than last year.

As regards the last couple of posts:-

Tim, you're right we don't know what'll happen, but now the teams are getting more data about the tyres (admittedly they've still got various conditions they ain't got a clue about yet), we should see more variation in strategies & hopefully more interesting races. If they all follow the same strategies then they won't get anywhere above the qualifying places.

Ag????, I don't think the problem is the tracks themselves, although I totally agree with your point about the massive run off areas, drivers aren't really penalised for their errors on the modern circuits. I used to love the scrapyard behind the barriers at turn 1 at Monaco, but they've made that far too easy now in my personal opinion.

Having tracks in deserts doesn't help though, too dusty, Valencia is just as bad, maybe that one will get better once they've finished building around it.

Should be worth getting up for after qualifying. There's got to be loads of overtaking wet or dry, I'm a bit worried about the first 2 corners though. The McLarens & Ferraris hitting the back of the new & midfield teams, could be a disaster if its wet.
