Reply to Post 51311 by Damien in Worst/Most Annoying Songs of '09 I'm surprised Mr Fantana hasn't piped up, confessing his undying love for Metrostation

Reply to Post 51411 by brianfantana in Worst/Most Annoying Songs of '09 ...and the autotune endorsed stylings of those careerist hacks in Metro Station

I knew it wouldn't take long as soon as he caught onto this thread, lol!! While we're on the topic - I think Mr Fantana should mention his genius idea - "Endurance Shit Music Video Watching" (a new kind of sport which I was recently introduced to)!

I heard a song the other day that had the word 'mischievious' (MIS-CHEE-VEE-OUS) in it - that's not how you pronounce mischievous, for fuck's sake!

We have a winner! Said utter drivel would be The Noisettes' truly dreadful 'Never Forget You' - a song which makes Keane sound like The Rolling Stones by comparison. Shoot me now.

Reply to Post 51399 by valjester in Worst/Most Annoying Songs of '09 I take back my remarks after realising I had misread the original post. One thing I will say though is that although I'm one of these people who are often (wrongly) assumed to possess an uncritical acceptance of any anti-racism talk, I do feel that things like 1Xtra and the MOBO awards are clearly outdated and in many ways counter-productive in their attempts to reinforce and reiterate the importance of black culture in today's society. It shouldn't need to be said.

But back on topic, I thought Beyonce's last song 'Halo' reached new realms of shitness.

yeah thats a bad song , I was using that word like they do on radio one to addvertise that channel , what is it onextra yeah i forgot the real name of it .

I think it was probably the notion that 'black music should not grace commercial radio as it has its place' that got people's backs up. Just bad wording, I'm sure.

A couple more entries:

Shakira - She Wolf. Not only has she ripped off Jemaine's song title, but there's no mention of any cold hearted-bitches digging ditches, and it has possibly the worst lyric of the year in "I'm starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office..." Truly shocking 'music'.

Alexandra Burke - Bad Boys. So bad it's borderline offensive. Awful lyrical sentiment (and all-round s**t tune) from the girl who openly admitted she'd never heard Hallelujah before her painful cover version (like that's not a spectacularly embarrassing admission for someone who claims "singing has always been my dream." ) Fuck. Off.

Backed, hard.

I truly refuse to believe this song isn't one big in-joke.

Ahhh...ooooooooooooooooh!

She also has a complete joke of a voice. She sounds like she's literally vomiting up each line.

Thats a bit harsh isnt it?? Give the poor girl a break...shes only just started out in the music business...I love Bad Boys, its a great first single...shes young and shes a bloody good singer...and alot of young girls will be looking up to her! and her album is great!

As for Shakira...pfft...that is the worst record of the year this year, I have to turn it off when she comes on, shes always pissed me off, her voice just grates on me...yuk!! Never could quite understand why there was a kid dressed up as a mummy in the "Hips Dont Lie" video...

That Shakira line is great at least it isn't completely mundane and our coffee machine gets abused to fuck. I like the single, one of the better pop songs of the year it's got a funk to it and i love the disco guitar twinkles. I've always thought that Shakira stood above most of the pop bints around, I'd also love to treat her like a coffee machine.

Alexandra Burke has nothing about her what so ever, the sooner she's at Butlins the better. The best thing to happen to these people is if they fall flat on their arse and their dreams flow down the gutter, but what does Cowell care? He'll move onto another puppet.

Reply to Post 51294 by Paj in Worst/Most Annoying Songs of '09 There are only seven basic notes / chords in the musical structure, so there was always going to be a finite amount of chord progressions and only so much unique sounds people could add to these, after which it just becomes re-inventing the wheel so to speak!

It's about understanding the position of Radio 1 now - they try to give a cross section of contemporary music in the 21st Century. With the birth of digital radio and internet streamed music there are many genre specific stations, the only way Radio 1 could maintain it's position was by expanding it's pick'n'mix approach of the most commercial acts.

I'm sure there's other people thinking "why do they play so much rock/indie/dance/Chris Moyles" : )

agreed.

also. i like a lot of the songs you guys don't. probably in the wrong forum. but as said a million times on here.. it's very one sided. i'm sure there's a billion other forums where people are asking similar questions about the music you guys listen to.

Fair enough, the guitar parts actually remind of Foals. I stand by the song being absolute cack though. And of course, Cowell is a cock of immeasurable proportions.
