Good old McG.
State of the art effects, some amazing action sequences and, Jesus, it's LOUD... but overall I walked away feeling I'd been entertained well enough but that there was virtually zero substance behind this film.
Bale is OK in it, pretty much plays John Connor as if he's Bruce Wayne (there's one short scene on a destroyed Golden Gate Bridge where he may as well be Batman without the mask) but overall the acting is pretty woeful.
The plot thinks it's far more clever and intelligent than it really is and, bizarrely, while some sequences look like they cost multiple million dollars (and they would have), others look like they cost less than a big night out - everything set in the submarine, for example.
Unlike the recent Star Trek franchise reboot, this just didn't leave me wanting more. In fact, they probably should have just ended it with this one.
Decent enough entertainment, more violent and gory than you'd expect for a 12A, and better than T3.
I'd love to know the reason Alice In Chains somehow wound up on the soundtrack - weird.
