Brilliant. Get a comedian (and one known for their nerdy ways) to talk about the serious effects of drugs for youngsters. That'll make them stop.

That advert just does not work at all. Kids don't know who David Mitchell is, he's not hip or cool with teens, and even if they did know who he was they're hardly his target audience. Thank god they can't see him, he looks like a geography teacher!

And the whole advert is crap even without the misplaced "witty" voice over. If anything it makes Cocaine look kind of cool. Dingy flats, club toilets, bit of a nosebleed....s'all a bit Eastenders innit.

They should have played more on the dog's suffering, more teens would have been bothered about that.

Surely the message should be...'Just say no!'

It worked for Grange Hill...

...now where did I leave that bag of Coke? BRUNO! SIT!

It'd get peoples attention and judging by the number of people in Swindon who do coke on a regular basis it's probably for the best

Drugs are fine in moderation. It's the abuse of it that's bad and the idiocy of some people not to realise they've turned into cocks.

Or eventually, not to realise they've turned to cocks.

To feed their habit.

By sucking cocks.

For cash.

drugs scare me - never tried, never want to, I fear for the kids of Swindon and any other town that drugs are rife in - say no is the way to go! I know I am old : ) but from my generation those I knew that did drugs are dead, ended up in prison or with crap lives... sounds generalising but thats what I have seen and dont like!

Motherly rant over!

:

ps!! and for gods sake we dont need the government to tell us what is right or wrong!

I can't entirely agree with you Lisa. I have been known to move in circles of despair....or people using. A few of them are dead, some of them are still using but...some of them are clean now. The thing is that although they are clean and functioning as 'normal' citizens, what got them clean wasn't a government ad campaign. It was a self realisation that their lives sucked and they needed to do something about it. Those still using weren't strong enough to get off on their own. It's these people who need support and guidance and a shoulder to lean on. NOT the government spending millions on ad campaigns. Put the money to better use...dickheads (the government not you lot : ) )

PS

Sometimes, Lisa, drugs are all that people have to turn to. You have a wonderful husband and terrific kids. You are wrapped in the security blanket of a wonderful, loving family. Not everyone out there in the real world have what you have. Spare a thought for them this Christmas. I will be : )

*be's radical*

Some people actually manage to take drugs recreationally and for fun without it taking over their lives too.

Doesn't mean drugs are the fabbest thing in the world ever, but you know....I just don't hold with this "Drugs = Bad" thing. Which is why the "Just say NO" campaign was a farce. It made people even more curious....it's like saying "Don't touch that big red flashing button over there...."

Our society has a massive drugs problem, but I'm not totally convinced that the actual drugs are the root of it. It's more complex than that and comes down to education, employment, aspirations, social apathy, poverty blah blah blah

I dont know how to answer you on that point Sean. No ones life is perfect no matter what ones situation is. I grew up as a kid in a very, very, viloent home but its made me into a person that worries and cares about others... we all have props in life, whether it is ocd, control, booz, food, drugs, there is a prop out there for all of us.. but for me from an early age when my friends at high school were dabbling I just knew gut insttinct it was something not to mess with, and my best friend then at the age of 15 drifted into another circle of friends and I another she ended up well I can onlhy descrribe as a desperate life. Its all about choice and like you said realisation... no government campaign can help I dont think - education in schools I believe is impoertant. Back in very late 79 I remember having a social class and one of the talks was about drugs I can remember watching a film about it and it scared me to death... I was 13 maybe thats what did it for me?

Sorry to waffle on :P

People will make choices good and bad no matter what education is out there.

Unfortunately for me, having been in this game they call 'rock and roll' on and off since 1977, drugs have gone hand in hand with music and were readily available. I have come through relatively unharmed. Having recently relapsed due to personal circumstances all I can say is that it was thanks to a few 'special' friends (yourself included Lisa) I managed to get back on track...just!! Don't forget, Alcohol is a drug too. No government campaign could of nor would of helped. All I will say on the matter is thanks Druglink and especially Trevor. It's these people who know what is going on and how to help, not some suited nobody in Whitehall.

And Sally. Very true what you say. You are one of the people on the front line regarding education and the future of this country. Recreational use does not always lead on to class A's. Just need people like yourself to watch for the signs. Some people are more vulnerable than others.

I think I've already said too much on this matter, so I'll shut up. Right...where's my 'special' bag...; )
