**ADAM: Couldn't get this to work in the reviews section, probably me being a dunce, sorry chum**
The Flaming Moes are a four-piece hailing from Skara, Sweden. They've been over here a few times in the last couple of years, including tours with Swindon's own Buswell, and stunning sets at Riffstock and Sugarhill Festival. Having had the pleasure of seeing them live several times over the last year, I decided to buy the E.P. to see whether the energy, intimacy and joy of the live show could be captured to disc. I wasn't disappointed!
From the opening smile of single 'I Got It', through the Wilson Brothers-esque harmonies of 'Bag Of Starlight', right down to the beauty of the Rhodes-led final cut 'Black Oil Surface', this is one perfectly-produced piece of pop. It never stoops to gimmicks or studio tricks to add spice to the songs: the arrangements are just so spot-on that it's simply not needed. It's a refreshing sign that the longest song on the E.P. is three and a half minutes long! There's no musical fat or gristle here: just prime 100% song meat.
Like all the best bands, they manage to both stamp their personality on the songs, with Erik Nyberg's slightly awkward, fragile voice guiding the backing through each song, and also evoke an image of the creation of them. It really does sound Swedish, in it's own way! Listening to it is like snuggling up to a warm fire while the snow falls outside. In short, it's a stunning, lovely record, and one that deserves to find it's way into your collection.
Now.
