Reply to Post 32718 by Sheermusic in eye-liner-tastic but Hanoi Rocks were shite...

I can only assume that you are referring to the Hanoi recent reformation rather than the early 80s line up. If you were referring to the good old days, then Sir you deserve a darned good thrashing with some birch!!!

Hanoi were a great band

Punk/Glam/Metal

I wish i'd been old enough to appreciate them in the 80s, got into them in the early 90s after being given a copy of The Dead By Christmas compilation,

I did name check the Wildhearts in an earlier post but no one took me up on the offer...thoughts anyone. Had a blast of their best of on Friday night before we went out, there are simply some quite brilliant songs on there.

Great band especially "Earth VS The Wildhearts" and "P.H.U.Q", that best of is cracking as well

If we're onto The Wildhearts, surely Terrorvision deserve a shout out? not sleaze metal but jolly good fun in a glam rock indie kinda way, first 2 album were great.

Back in the mid 1990s, "Wanna Go Where The People Go" by The Wildhearts, was one of my drinking songs, then again, back in the mid 1990s, most songs we're my "drinking songs"

One thing I'm liking here is that there's a lot of positive debate here amongst people from fairly diverse musical backgrounds (albeit it guitar-based). Part of the point of the blog was to serve as a reminder that some glam albums/bands can hold their head high outside of the genre. A lot of it was c**p, but the same could be said of any musical genre. The good stuff will always outlive the dross and appeal to those who wouldn't normally partake.

I think quite a few of those albums had quite a wide musical appeal

I was certainly more from the Goth/Indie/Punk side of things but enjoyed quite a few acts mentioned in this thread.

Mr Slaz, you sir need to come and attend Barry's Disco next time it's in town, Mr Fowler, Mr Gallie and me playing a number of these acts with other treats, very much the sound of Level 3 circa 1993

They even make you put glue on the soles of your shoes for that extra " Level 3 stick to the floor" authenticity.

My copy of Third Eye - Redd Kross arrived last night and I was reminded of just how briliant that album was. Perfect pop melodies played by raucous guitars, retro vibes and sumptuous backing harmonies and loads of great little musical details. And anyone that says that isnt Paul Stanley singing second vocal on 1976 is clearly delusional. (I bet its not but I like to think he would have loved this)

Drove to work this morning with it...and me accompanying, blasting out at top volume. Zira has got to be the most euphoric song ever written.

Third Eye is a brilliant album definitely Redd Kross' finest hour (I do like "Neurotica", "Phaseshifter" and "Showworld" as well) it does baffle me why they weren't huge, such great pop songs, is it me or does Jeff McDonald sound exactly like John Lennon?

My copy is due over the next few days

couple that with the Paul Stanley inference and you have the core of what they are about...Kiss playing long lost Beatles songs!

They should've been huge, the nearest they got to a hit was the cover of "Yesterday Once More" by The Carpenters which made the top 50 in 1994

New album being recorded at the moment which I assume means a UK tour next year, I want to go and see the mighty Kross again.... brilliant live band.
