This was just before I fully embraced the world of glam - 10/6/08 sees Gypsy Queen plus Tigertailz at the Astoria (signed incidentally by the Cardiff glamsters),

talking of Cardiff Glam....anyone remember City Kidz...I think I have a cassette kicking around somewhere and I really need to replace the long lost Gunfire Dance tape I had with something more durable.

13/3 - AC/DC, Wembley Arena
16/3 - Mission, Colston Hall
19/3 - Frehley's Comet, Hammy O
11/4 - Def Leppard, Wembley Arena

(Julian, I reckon you were at least 4 of those!)

Yep, those four.

I also very well remember Jane's Addiction at the Bristol Studio. I tied it in with a trip to Skin Deep in Bristol and had had the entire top half of my right arm sleeved just prior to the show - hurt like hell. I think the fact the might Primus supported is worth a mention.

How about the first Manic Street Preachers album "Generation Terrorists" sure it was a bit too long with 18 tracks and they should've included the mighty "Motown Junk" on it but there were some cracking tunes on there (Slash n Burn, Stay Beautiful, Repeat, Motorcycle Emptiness)

Were they indie? were they hell, they were a glam rock band

Shame that post-Everything Must Go they went shite

Mr Moon ...... have you not been to Glamrock Aftershock today? We've been thinking about the same album! Loved it to death but have similar issues to you. Plus you might want to comment about the Stone Roses reference ....

Dave - I can sort you out there, but I should warn you that I'm not that quick off the mark and it might be a while before you receive anything! Still, PM me your address and - this is the important bit - don't hold your breath.

I've just been listening to Gunfire Dance courtesy of Myspace, liking what I hear, definite garage punk influence going on there

Every time I listen to the Lords I question why (in the era they were around) they werent so much bigger. Then again, you look at the group of people they associated with at the time (Hanoi, Ramones, Johnny Thunders etc) you can assume that getting absolutely hammered was of far more importance to them. The ironic thing is that when he formed Whores Of Babylon with Johnny Thunders and Dee Dee Ramone he was the only one not to die of a heroin overdose!
If you can find the footage of them starting a song for four or five minutes while they wait for Stiv to take off a bangle, its classic. He cant stand, he cant talk, he cant move, but he is complete rock star in the footage.

Is that the footage from the live vid during the intro to 'Black Girl White Girl'? How a man can command a stage doing something so mundane, well ....

I have to agree I can't fathom out why the likes of "New Church","Russian Roulette", "Dance With Me" and "M-Style" weren't hit singles. Stiv was a legend, such a shame he died in such daft circumstances (although you do wonder, had he not been knocked over, would he have succumb to drugs).

I got into them when Mr Rowe flogged me a copy of the first album which blew me away, I was back a few weeks later to buy the other albums and the "Killer Lords" compilation.

Great songs, great sound (glam goth post punk new wave metal?)

Neil, I only have "Killer Lords" on cd so have copied you that, I need to get the rest at some point

My favourite Lords track, the drum intro does sound like the theme to "Only Fools and Horses" though

Reply to Post 32389 by lazarus in eye-liner-tastic "Hanoi Rocks were shite" threads. If you don't like this type of music, there is little point posting here.

Quite like some of the music, say the Dolls' but Hanoi Rocks were shite... I work with a guy who keeps saying "...seriously, if you were there back then..."

They got into a Melody Maker book given away with the magazine called "on the other hand, there a fist" which was really good, and featured bands that split before their time. i'll dig it out...
