a bit of sleaze rock thread

Dave, Dave, Dave ... what on earth have you started?

First off, yes Julian it's you (after all, you were a name-change to Brad or Chuck away from earning an American passport in your time!). Apologies for my mistaken memory re: Vain! Someone else metioned recently that it was the guitarist in RK that sang the Stanley-esque backing vocals so that's two edits I'll need to make to the blog!

I also remember you having that VHS promo of Jellyfish, and I'm pretty certain that was the 1st I'd heard of them. Bellybutton is another CD I've recently upgraded to (all I had for years was a promo cassette from my days at Our Price). A great album, a great band - as are the various offshoots (Umajets and Imperial Drag leap to mind; and is it no coincidence that Roger Manning turned up on Morrissey's most commercially successful album?).

Enuff Z'Nuff were a band I always avoided, mainly as I hated New Thing (that 'melody' line on the verses ... urgh). But I've been told that certainly their later albums are worth a listen.

Sorry to hear you ended up watching Ratt vids on YouTube though - I feel quite guilty about that!

I have to admit that I was also a bit UK-centric for my own good at times. I mean come on, the Tattooed Love Boys? What the f**k was I thinking.

Good to see that some old albums are going to be dusted down in various Swindon homes tonight!

seemed to have created some edit work for you young, Slaz, sorry, but this is the first thread thats actually stuck to talking about music with out someone slagging the genre, Swindon, each other for a while so I'm making the most of it.

Anyone got an opinion on Bang Tango...saw them at the Bierkeller back in the day, they sounded a lot less LA than most of the other stuff of the time.

Also up for discussion..lets try and think back

LA Guns Hollywood Vampires, I really liked that album.

also mention of Tattoed Love Boys obviously opens a door to slightly side step and talk about The Wildhearts..anyone?

Can I give a big shout out for the first Quireboys album?

I know they were pretty commercial Faces-esque rock rather than sleaze but I liked it!!

I'm ordering Redd Kross' "Third Eye" tomorrow, will be listening to Hanoi Rocks and the Dolls this weekend and need to upload the first Jellyfish album onto my MP3 player ready for tomorrow's journey to work (found myself humming "The King Is Half Undressed" on the way into work today, that was such a fantastic glam-pop song

nice work Dave/Darryl

agreed, I used to see them at the festivals and I thought that the album went a long way to capture what they were all about. Also not a million miles away from the first Black Crowes album...in some ways.

First 2 Crowes albums were cracking, they were a brilliant live band as well (I saw them supported by Thee Hypnotics (another great band)) although the singer did look like Fowler : )

Sorry mate, I was probably listening to The Stone Roses back then, I only flirted with the sleazemetal stuff but what I loved, I really loved.

Not sure how much Redd Kross you ordered from Amazon but "Neurotica" is also worth getting, the album before "Third Eye"

Of course anyone wishing to order items from Amazon may wish to do so via the links in the blog (no reason, honest ...).

Will respond re: Babysitters, Bang Tango when lunchtime calls. And for your personal benefit Dave I might even mention Under Neath What ...

They always made me think that they were the musical version of taking Ketamin...warped, heavy and oppressive...took me a long time but got to like some of it....

I'm pretty sure Under Neath What supported The Sisters Of Mercy in late 1990 when I saw them in London, perhaps Mr Fowler can confirm this fact as I seem to recall he was also at said gig?

Bang Tangos first album was good, stuff after that was a bit ropey - Beautiful Creatures was a later incarnation that had some good songs but sadly carried over a lot of their egos.
Black Crowes first album was a classic - I even signed a copy for someone in Bath when i was a tad longer haired and smaller weighted!
Underneath What were sooooo good, even if every girl wet her knickers at the sight of the singer!!!

And as for the Babysitters, I still remember Slaz teaching me "Frank Bough" on the way to the Town Gardens for a gig. Learn it and perform it within 2 hours!!!

Often wondered, didnt the UNW singer have the same surname as Miki from Lush....were they related? Anyone.

Kill City Dragons anyone? Shooting Gallery? Lords of the New Church?

this could go on for ever

Lords of The New Church

Good call Dave

Great band

I remember Stuart Rowe selling me second hand vinyl copies of "Lords of The New Church","Is Nothing Sacred" and "The Method To Our Madness" plus I've got a cd version of "Killer Lords" (which is a pretty good best of and includes the legendary cover of Madonna's "Like A Virgin"; ) when I ran out of Damned records to buy

Still listen to the Lords a fair bit

Black Girl White Girl's drum intro did remind me of the theme from Only Fools and Horses though

Lords - the bassist and drummer went on to be in Kill City Dragons - who lost all members (apart from guitarist) to Shooting Gallery. Theres a connection for you!! the other connection was that the quality of th eir output went down as they progressed from band to band!!

Rich, the Lords vinyl you bought was probably mine..... : (
