Written very much in an Arthur-esque style (if you've seen the excellent New York Doll documentary then you can easily imagine him speaking what's written on the page),

That would be good to read, watching the documentary he was so different to what you expect and was an incredibly endearing person.
May well have to look into this one.
By the way, you coming to the Vic tonight?

It would great if Mr Slaz could make it, sadly I reckon the forces of geography are against him (Forces of Geography, sounds like an early 80's NWOBHM band)

Presumably by tonight you mean when you wrote this post, as opposed to when I read it? Actually the answer's the same ....

I was actually in WB at the weekend. If Tom had gone to sleep any earlier than 10.30 then I could have showed up at the Crue tribute gig - did anyone go?

We did however indulge in the very rock & roll world of the Steam museum. Go me.

I went to the Motley Crew gig : )

I saw the real Motley Crue in '91 (I think) and they were fucking s**t but this band were actually pretty good musically...no rock 'n' roll antics or booze, drugs, trashed equipment..etc...disappointed really ha ha ha ha

Reply to Post 57015 by Slaz in eye-liner-tastic Have just started reading Arthur Kane's autobiography I, Doll: Life & Death with the New York Dolls. It only covers the 18 months from forming the Dolls through to Billy Murcia's death, with his wife then writing an extended epilogue covering life from that point.

Have just finished this - a good read but not exceptional. Some stories are possibly tamed down due to his later-life devotion to the Mormons, plus Arthur's take seems to be that he pretty much founded the band, which goes against what's in Nina Antonia's book on the Dolls. One for your Xmas lists.

I'm really hoping the "special guests" being added to the Iggy and The Stooges play "Raw Power", Suicide play "Suicide" gig me and Mr Hano are attending next May in London turn out to be The Dolls

Stooges/Suicide/NY Dolls would be an incredible line up!

Reply to Post 57016 by MarkEMoon in eye-liner-tastic I really want to get a copy of this, I can imagine Arthur Kane has a good tale to tell.

The best thing about "killer" Kane is that he made the least convincing tranny,

I'm currently grooving to Johnny Thunders "It's not enough"

Junkie rock don't get no better.

Umm, Mark - we've got two days to reform the Rockit Dolls. Alternatively get Hotel 75 on the bill!

Get in ...! It does seem that the best way to get me to see a Swindon band is to make the effort and play Cambridge. After all 2SM had the decency to play a pub 3 minutes from my house recently ...

When in doubt, get the eye-liner-tastic thread out ... the excuse this time? Well, I was surprised to see in my local Waterstones today that Andy McCoy has published an autobiography - Sheriff McCoy: Outlaw Legend of Hanoi Rocks. I had a flick through (before ordering it for less on Amazon, natch) and so will report back. But if his guest appearances in Motley Crue's 'The Dirt' are anything to go by, this is going to be one grubby tale.
