Reply to Post 36147 by Slaz in eye-liner-tastic I remember buying the Brats album at a record fair at the St Johns Ambulance hall and within a few seconds of 'Chez Maxines' kicking in phoning the afore-mentioned Mr Fowler as I had to IMMEDIATELY tell someone who good this album was.

It's pretty bloody special, you've got to feel sorry for the band, to have an album this good sat in the can for years, if it had been released in 1973 they would've been credited with the first UK Punk album, pretty important band also given the fact members subsequently surfaced in London SS with Mick Jones and Tony James and then The Boys (who as Mr Fowler was telling me, had distribution problems with their first album)

What became of these guys? did they ever reform?

There's a second album, only it's virtually impossible to find. I've been told it's pretty ropey though bar one song (called something like 'Suckin' On Suzie').

Casino Steel went on to make 4 albums in the early 80s with Gary Holton. They were country-ish, with covers of things like 'Ruby (Don't Take Your Love To Town)', plus 60s songs like 'Runaway' and 'No Reply' and a few of their own songs (including a version of the Heavy Metal Kids' 'She's No Angel', later covered by Michael Monroe). Again, fairly hard to find, particularly the 3rd & 4th volumes (I've got 1,2 & 3 on LP).

Guitarist John Plain was in the CryBabys in the early 90s along with Darrell Bath (later of the Dogs D'Amour).

You are a font of knowledge Sir.

Further to a comment you have also made to me about the mighty Teenage Fanclub I was listening to Bandwaggonesque again earlier, still a cracking album, pure powerpop

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=i1KiLJ6HoTs

and whilst we're on the "Big Star-esque" theme

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YYLNO-0CLHo

The core of this band (i.e. the 2 singers/vocalists) are now fully fledged members of... Big Star alongside Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens

There's a story on the Hollywood Brats Official website that they are considering a reunion?

Not sure how old this news is, or indeed if it's likely to happen.

I'd go and see them based on that album

Their guitarist, Brady, once advertised in Kerrang! for a band - this would have been circa 1990. We called him but he was out at a Prince gig. We didn't call him back - his loss (ahem) ....

Really enjoying getting re-aquainted with Gunfire Dance of late thanks to messrs Moon and Wilkes (sounds like a London law firm but never mind). Hopefully some of that sort of sound will get dragged into the melting pot of the new bands make up. (no not that sort of make up)

I really like the Gunfire Dance CD, it sits together well as an album even though it's a couple of 7"'s, an EP and some demo's.... I'm surprised they didn't do better in the early 90s, great powerful and melodic sound.

I keep seeing little references on here to this 'new band'; I think I can piece together some of the line-up from the clues available ...

Go on, have a guess!!! You may well get 60% right (not necessarily on the instruments you think), but I think the other 40% will be a bit tricky (we have chosen Lithuanian Coal workers for drums and rhythm guitar to keep an air of mystique!!)

Those guys are Lithuanian? That explains why I can't understand them....I thought they were just pissed.

I was lucky enough to hear some MP3's of this new band last week and have to say those involved are making a great noise, I'm rather chuffed we've got said band's live debut at our monthly Songs of Praise event in March at the Victoria.

Ah, well the percentages you mention suggest a multiple of 5 - assuming there aren't 10 members I'll go with Mark Luth and Lazarus as two definites, and I did see on another thread Adam making a reference to you about a new band so I'll throw him in too along with a couple of members of Diablo13.

If there are 10 members then the rest are Malcolm Booy, Andy Campbell, The Tilling brothers and Tony 'Redshift' Brown.

Oooh, close.... no, the reference Adam made in another thread was to the "when the Luth get bored at jamming" band.
so you have 2 of the 5 names!!!
