Shotgun Sally - Cats in Boots is such a tune, thankyou for reminding me of that!

My pleasure. It's one of those few tracks that genuinely captures some of the same kind of energy that Guns N Roses harnessed on Appetite For Destruction.

Maybe Axl should have covered it for Chinese Democracy.

Inspired by Darryl's Blog and Dave's thread on here I have been visiting the rather fine Sleazegrinder website site which has led me to purchasing a cheap second cd copy of the following little gem

Motorcycle Boy - Popsicle

Released late 89, classic LA Glam Punk, produced by the legendary Sylvan Sylvan, I'm sure a few people on here will either know this album and those that don't will love it.

It's very much the sound of Sneering Iggy Pop-esque vocals over NY Dolls/Ramones backing, really strong songs, very catchy, £3... bargain!!

A slight tangent, however listening to my recently acquired cd version of Underneath What's fine 1989 album "What Is It?" this morning I was reminded of two tracks which, although more from the "indie" side of town.. so to speak, were probably closer in spirit to some of the bands mentioned on here, in both cases the bands were part of the C86 Jangly Indie Scene, had a slight flirtation with T-Rex meets MC5 inspired rock before climbing aboard the indie dance bandwaggon.... however ... back to my original point

How about these 1989 classics

this one is cribbed from the Chart Show circa late 89 so it takes a while to get going (although it does also featue a 20 second clip of Thee Hypnotics mighty "Soul Trader"

That 2nd Primal Scream album's a classic - some great Thunders-isms on there. Again it's something that I have on vinyl only and so haven't heard it for a few years. Reckon I must be able to pick it up pretty cheap though (plus it's got Glamrock Aftershock written all over it ...) so thanks for the reminder!

Primal Scream are an interesting band, first album "Sonic Flower Groove" was pure Byrdsian jangle, the second album sounded like the Heartbreakers. "Screamadelica" was a mish mash of everything, I like most of their stuff. That second album was a classic especially "Ivy Ivy Ivy" and the original version of "Loaded" aka "I'm Losing More Than I Ever Had"

I am currently listening to the sonic delights of The Hollywood Brats album courtesy of Mr Fowler, what an amazing album and what a shame it wasn't released in 1973 (Cherry Red eventually issued it in 1980) this is Glam Punk at it's finest (I also have some D-Generation, Soho Roses and a Glam Punk compilation to look forward to, that's in addition to the Stiv Bators "Disconnected" and New York Dolls reunion album from Mr Slaz).

Long may this thread continue, some great music

I remember buying the Brats album at a record fair at the St Johns Ambulance hall and within a few seconds of 'Chez Maxines' kicking in phoning the afore-mentioned Mr Fowler as I had to IMMEDIATELY tell someone who good this album was.

And "Sick On You" has the best chord ever put to record in it... even better than the end of "Tooting Bec Wreck" when Andy McCoy goes off on one.
It is indeed an undiscovered golden classic.

Yeah, we did it - well we didnt, we created a Rockit Dolls covers band to do it for us. Andy Glam covered me, Colin covered Billy, Andy McLellan covered your bits. I think Scarrot did drums, although im not sure as they were obscured by an over enthusiastic wig.

No, it didnt happen.

Shame - that sounded like a great alternative line-up.

When I was in Taxi Driver I had this odd dream that we had a tribute band doing the rounds, but also called Taxi Driver and doing not only our songs but some of their own in the same style, including one called 'I'll Be An Alcoholic By Saturday'. When I get a spare moment I might write that.

Andy Mac spent a couple of years in the Alchemicals who attracted a fair bit of label interest and released one single when he was in the band on a V2 subsidiary label (can't remember which). Bassist was Nathan Fisher, another Bassett alumni who went on to the Tears (Bernard Butler & Brett Anderson's short-lived band a few years ago) and is now in World Party, who by all accounts don't do very much.

This probably puts Nathan just ahead of Richard Davies and Nick Smith in terms of 'who-from-our-peer-group-has-done-the-best'.

Since the Alchemicals The Mac (as he's become known these days) has fronted a band called Uncle Mac's Circus Sideshow, who mainly did odd combinations of covers (eg 'Hello' by Lionel Richie, seguing into 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' via the 'Hello, hello, hello, hello' refrain). He's got something new in the pipeline at the moment and he's trying to lure the Perrett brothers into joining (seriously).

I should be seeing him after Xmas so I can update then. He's also spending Xmas itself in the Swindon area so keep your eyes peeled.

Blimey! a fair few of that old crowd did okay then. World Party, they were ace around the Private Revolution and Goodbye Jumbo albums. And Andy trying to muscle in on the Perret boys...fair play. Had a few beers with those lads when they played Swindon as Love Minus Zero. Are they still working under that name?

As far as I know (before that they were known as the C*nts, not the most commercial of names). Pete Jr was an engineer on a friend's album (The Rocks - Asking For Trouble), and it's via that link that The Mac has come into the Perretts' orbit.
