Reply to Post 32989 by Slaz in eye-liner-tastic A fine purchase! Think you'll enjoy that.

Especially for Dave I recommend This Is Pop: The Life & Times Of A Failed Rock Star by Ed Jones from the Tansads. Another highly entertaining account of being in a band and getting nowehere ...

Should have known you'd have been on the case .... I lent my copy to someone and never saw it again. A great book.

I never actually owned it, but borrowed it off a friend and read it front to back in one sitting. Thats how taken I was with it. Especially interesting for me as I used to go and see the band a fair bit back in the day.

I could be wrong but have we completely missed off Faster Pussycat from this thread? Some great tunes on their first album. Must have been odd for them, being on the same level as their mates GnR one minute, debut albums released at the same time, a joint-headline UK tour and then within a year .. BANG. Not that Pussycat had a bad career but they were never first division*.

* Translation for our younger viewers:

Not that Pussycat had a bad career but they were never Premier League.

Reply to Post 32990 by Slaz in eye-liner-tastic Yay - I've got that on 12" .... have got lots of early Crazyhead 12" singles but nothing to play them on .... : (

I am record deck-less at the moment, still got quite a few of my old goth/punk/indie/metal records but nothing to play them on either, annoyingly quite a bit of this stuff is yet to appear on CD and/or it's too bloody expensive on Amazon

That's the one.

For all the hoopla about the 'most dangerous band in the world', Guns N Roses were always a fairly safe band in reality, aside from Axl Rose's insanity of course. Faster Pussycat really did seem like they actually didn't give a s**t about anything.

You could quite easily tracklist 'Paradise City' on any middle of the road compilation CD and it wouldn't raise any eyebrows - put 'Don't Change That Song' on there and most of the people hearing it would want a shower directly afterwards.

(Which is a good thing, in case anyone was confused)

Yeah, the Faster Pussycat section in Decline of Western Civilisation should have a "you may feel soiled after viewing" warning on it.

I can't take any credit mate, I blame Mr Fowler for playing it to me back in the early 90's at Level 3, then Mr Gammon for reminding me of it's genius earlier this year over a few beers.

Mr Dave has just written a new song for Diablo 13 that sounds scarily like Faster Pussycat. I like it ...

I've just been looking into the various Jellyfish spin-offs and came across a band called Hollyfaith.

I'd like to draw everyone's attention the name of the bass player:

"By the time Chameleon came out in 1991, Atlanta's Hollyfaith was one of the most beloved acts on the Southern touring circuit, thanks to gritty, oversized guitar riffs, hyperactive rhythms and singer Rob Aldridge's distinctive, Jägermeister-saturated growl. The quartet neatly bound these elements together with seemingly inexhaustible energy, swaggering melodies and a healthy dose of arrogance on the album's woozy "Voodoo Doll," the scrambled, fun "Birdie" and the petulant, sassy "Whatsamatta."

The Hollyfaith buzz reached major labels, and the band signed to Epic, which released the disastrous Purrrr in 1993. Aldridge sounds bored instead of dangerously sensual; drummer Jeff Warncke and bassist David Franklin - usually a fiery rhythm section - seem subdued. Even guitarist Kevin Morrison can't bring his normal intensity to the effort. The slightly menacing "Color of Blood" and the swooning power balladry of "Needs" come across well enough, but new versions of "Whatsamatta" and "Voodoo Doll" have little of the spark they displayed on Chameleon.

Maybe the band was overwhelmed by commercial pressures, maybe producer Don Fleming steered them wrong. In any case, Purrrr is a big letdown for anyone aware of Hollyfaith's once-riveting presence.

Rob Aldridge went on to some success in the Umajets (featuring ex-Jellyfish guitarist Tim Smith), with their 1997 album Demolition and 1999's Swollen and Tender."
