Next up The Throbs...Language of Vagabonds and Thieves is a cracking album, what does anyone else reckon?

Just been flicking through some of my vinyl, here are a couple more crackers:

Royal Court of China - 'Half The Truth'
(I never knew the video was directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Bruce Campbell !)

"Think of what you say and divide it by two, what d'you get? Half the truth" - great line.

Rock City Angels - 'Deep Inside My Heart'

A bit of British stuff:

Crazyhead - 'Baby Turpentine'

And finally, just for Slaz, another classic from the sixth form corner:

Heaven's Edge - 'Skin To Skin'

Ah mate

Crazyhead... what a band

I replaced my very worn copy of "Desert Orchid" last year on CD, such a great album, I've got Baby Turpentine on an Indie compilation called CD86

This thread just gets better and better

I feel we should re-convene to the pub and discuss it further : )

Hmmm, still not sure... yes, its a good album, but not what i expected (or wanted) it to be after hearing the demos. Im sure Slaz has 'Cryin' somewhere which would have been the best song if they had put it on the album.
As for Last Great Dreamers, I still think it has some good songs on the album but the production wasnt great. More trivia, I played with them on their last gig as Silver Hearts and their first gig as Last Great Dreamers - one gig they turn up as Dogs D'Amour in Seattle, the next gig they turn up as Slade doing a cameo in Austin Powers!!!

I've got a Royal Court of China tape (Geared & Primed) that I keep meaning to re-listen to as I seem to remember them being half-decent so thanks for the reminder!

Crazyhead, another great band ... have Desert Orchid on LP but unlike Mr Moon don't have the cash to replace it with a CD - the prices it goes for are virtually extortion.

Re: sixth form corner, you'll be digging out Kings Of The Sun next .....

Incidentally one and all - can I just recommend Seb Hunter's 'Hell Bent For Leather' book. Hilarious reading for anyone in here that's been in a band (and if it's a glam band, even more amusing) and/or has entertained a love of all things rock.

Seconded. I was telling Dave he HAD to read it the other week, but I fear he may have been too drunk to remember.....

I know that I have a Royal Court of China album and a Rock City Angels double album somewhere..really must raid the vinyl cupbord as I can't put a song to either band...the shame.

Really? I got my copy from a bloke in Germany for £10 about 12 months ago, It's the American Version which, if memory serves has a slightly different running order.

More than happy to copy this for you, PM me your address and I'll pop a copy in the post, I can add "Baby Turpentine" to it

Ha ha

Rival Records had hundreds of copies, it was Christmas 89, I had it on 7" single

Crazyhead covered "Like Princes Do"
Diesel Park West covered "Info Freako"
Jesus Jones covered "I Don't Want That Kind of Love"

Marvellous

This is a great thread!

Slightly off topic but how about The Godfathers?

They were bloody marvellous, reformed this year and re-issued the first album "Hit By Hit" prob more garage rock than anything else and they dressed like insurance salesmen but bloody hell they could rock a bit

A fine purchase! Think you'll enjoy that.

Especially for Dave I recommend This Is Pop: The Life & Times Of A Failed Rock Star by Ed Jones from the Tansads. Another highly entertaining account of being in a band and getting nowehere ...

This Is Pop
