As he refers to in his blog, Darryl and I didn't see eye-to-eye on some of those bands (and albums) but he recalls slightly incorrectly about my not liking Vain (I'm pretty sure it's me he's referring to). I loved them - enough for the band I was in to cover 'Beat The Bullet', anyway.
Also, the lines in the track '1976':
"This is the era, this is the time
You know you've got to boogie 'cuz your platforms are fine"
were actually sung by Red Kross guitarist, Robert Hecker, who pulled off an incredible impression of Paul Stanley.
Good to be reminded about The Pursuit of Happiness, 'Love Junk' is a great record.
I'd add Love/Hate's 'Blackout In The Redroom' as an album from that era that, to me, has stood the test of time. It's incredible how fresh and contemporary
this sounds, even thought it's almost 20 years old now.
Also, given his comments about Red Kross, I'm surprised there's no mention of Enuff Z'nuff's debut album - which is again Kiss meets The Beatles... although, hilariously, also sounds virtually identical to British band that would channel The Beatles some years later -
you have to see this.
He's right about my views on LA Guns though, they really were arse
