Reply to Post 34123 by desmond in xfactor Apparantly the winner is going to release a cover of 'Hallelujah' as their Christmas single. Now I can see that a few of these vapid, identikit stage school horrors have halfway decent voices. I can even admit to watching the odd show or two over the years. But seriously..no. No no no no no no no no no no. No. Just fucking no.

REALLY?

The only cover version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" that should be allowed was Jeff Buckleys rendition, anyone else.... noooooooooooooooooooooo

Yup, and apparently it's because the judges are expecting Diana Vickers to win and she's already done it:

Arrggghhhhhhhh

That girl has one of the single most irritatingly affected voices I have EVER heard.

She annoys the hell out of me and that is a truly awful version of a great song, one can only hope that if she ends up with the Xmas number one it might lead a few people to seek out either the Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley versions?

Diana sounds like some horrific hybrid of Delores from the Cranberries and Dido, horrendous, even by X Factor Standards, at least Leona could sing and, whilst I don't care for her music she's done pretty well for herself and I can see why people like "Bleeding Love"

Bleeding Love?...Bleedin' Awful!

And why people think that taking such a seminal song and popping it up for an X factor winner is a winning formula, has nothing to do with music and everything to do with a quick buck. If these people (singers and pundits) actually had anything to contribute to the industry they work in, they would be launching these people with original material as part of a planned career path. As it is its normally about getting their hopes up, milking them dry, making as much fast cash as possible and then binning them.I suppose it works both ways and as long as both sides are happy with a disposable short term product then thats fine. Does it add anything to the whole progression of the art of music making and the body of creative work that we hold so dear. Errr.....No.

The Jeff Buckley cover of "Hallelujah" should be number one this Xmas instead, perhaps someone will launch a campaign to get people to download it I-Tunes and try and prevent the X Factor Version from triumphing, a bit like Malcolm Middleton's bid for last years Christmas Number One with "We're All Going To Die" which managed to reach... erm number 31 in the end.

I think Hedgehog kid and Diana are the worst 2 there. Don't like Ruth much either. Alexanda has consistently been the best.

Because, unless you have not realised, most of the people that probably vote are going to be thriteen year old girls. In other words it has nothing to do with how well they can sing, this is not a singing competition, it is a "who can please the young girls the best" competition and that is that stupid welsh kiddie.... See, I cant even bring myself to say his name.
