Really? I thought it was well funny! A lot of thought and effort had gone into it. I can't believe they got Macca in? Didn't think he was up for that kind of thing...

I usually like Peter Kay but this really didn't work for me at all.

The problem with shows like X Factor is that they're already parodies of themselves, they're already comedies. Peter Kay's version was almost less funny than the original. I mean, that R Wayne character was different to any real life contestant how, exactly? There's a bloke currently in the real version who is clearly only there because his wife died recently.

Don't get me wrong, I like subtle satire as much as the next person but Peter Kay's thing seemed to rely on two things to raise a laugh: people in wheelchairs and him dressed up as a woman. Neither of which I find much humour in.

Nothing wrong with a bit of X Factor on a Saturday eve if your not going out. The auditions have me in stitches. Get's a bit rubbish after that however.

Reply to Post 30631 by Paj in xfactor my only problem with the show is they've destroyed the classic Xmas No 1 single race by timing the end of the show and the first single release for that week. Artists no longer bother to record proper Xmas singles.

Well, to be honest, whats the point a anyway, getting to number 1 means nothing nowadays as you only have to sell 5 copies to get there (well, alright, thats an exaggeration, but you get the jist).

In the seventies you had to sell in the region of 500,000 to get to number 1..........

Here's another one for you, Shayne Ward, you know, the guy who was tipped to be great, last I heard he was now singing at Butlins - awesome career.

The contract is written in such a way that the only person who really will make money out of it is Simon Cowell. Fair play to him for being able to exploit dimwitted fuckwits, who, some of them, have talent, but are wasting it on this shit.

I'm no fan of his, but you're being somewhat unfair. Here's his career so far:

First album - number one in eight countries: UK, Ireland, South Africa, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. Over 790,000 copies sold.

Second album - number one in Ireland, number two in the UK. Over 504,000 copies sold.

He's also had four top ten singles.

His 2008 tour is virtually arenas only (Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool etc.) and runs from May 12th to December 29th.

Sure, he does seem to be playing one date at Butlins, but so what, he's a pop act - money's money isn't it?

The guy will walk away in a year or two's time with more money in his pocket than he could have ever dreamt to have seen in his life prior to X Factor. Where's the harm?

My ears

On the Peter Kay programme, I too was disappointed, I've loved everything he's done, Phoenix Nights, his tours, and the less known The Services. But this wasn't a patch on any of them, a few moments made me laugh 'no it was wires Cat' but nice to see he's still working with the same crowd though, and apparently he's written a third series of Phoenix Nights and is just working on reuniting the cast.

Okay, fair enough, but, and this will surprise many of you, record companies are not stupid. Read some of the press from ex executives of record comapnies and look at the long list of names that you would think would be very wealthy but in fact have nothing because of the way contracts are written. I can guarantee you that the majority of that money goes in Simon Cowells pocket as loose change.
