Live TV - Streaming TV Channels
Mon 8 Sep 2008 09:11
Morning all.

Anyone able to point me in the direction of TV Channels on the Internet? The plan is to get to stop paying for Sky TV - but still want most of the channels!! Most important is live Rugby matches...

OK.

Download and install a free program called PEERGUARDIAN 2.
Download and install a free program called SOPCAST.

Bookmark this website http://www.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports

Make sure PG2 is always updated and running.
Try and learn to set up a proxy, it's easy to do once you know how and will stop any unwanted interruptions or future problems.

The quality of the programs will not be great, but if you have a decent broadband connection and a good bitrate from the SOPCAST channel, you'll be quite happy.

Peerguardian huh, that'll involve some learning! Not used anything like that before. Will check it out! Thanks dude.

Everyone that's ever downloaded anything via p2p needs to have PG2, it's not a guarantee but you are far safer using a database of bad ip addresses than you are without one. All you have to do is install it, then just leave it alone. It will do the rest automatically.

SOPCAST is the broadcast program. Most of these kind of programs are Chinese, which is why I use SOPCAST as it is all in English. The channels however won't always have English commentary, but you can catch whatever games you want, they will all be there if you check on MYP2P.EU to see what the channels are showing.

I have all the sports channels anyway, but when I go away I take my laptop and make sure wherever i'm staying has broadband. SOPCAST is perfect for catching any live football/boxing/tennis/rugby etc.
There's even movies and music channels, news, documentaries etc etc.

Try it again on Saturday afternoon. Premier league matches are broadcast almost live in China with a 5 minute delay.

Remember to get a feed with a good bitrate, makes all the difference.

Sopcast is free from malware, it has built in adverts but you're getting this stuff for free. It's basically just p2p streaming software that works quite similarly to bittorrent. Whereas direct streaming quality diminishes the more people connect to it, it is the exact opposite with bittorrent. The more connected peers, the better the stream quality.

Peerguardian 2 is an essential downloading tool. It's basically a database of all the IP addresses that you wouldn't want to connect to , so that includes spammers, government, educational (don't trust college connections), anti-p2p and any law inforcement agencies. The lists are updated every day automatically and you can choose the level of protection you want. It's not a guarantee, but it's safer with than without. If you want a scare, take a look at the blocklists every now and then, you'll be shocked at who is trying to connect to you.

The law around watching these streams is kind of sketchy and other programs like TV Ants has it's streams cut all the time by pissed off sports broadcasters. I've found SOPCAST to be far more reliable and it has alot more sports channels than the other programs do (trust me, i've tried them all).

Setting up a proxy is up to you, personally I would as i'm super paranoid about online privacy (i'm on Virginmedia and I don't trust them), but it is by no means essential or even guaranteed to be 100% safe. If you do choose a proxy, try and use a Chinese or Hong Kong one, as they're less likely to be cut off compared to a UK one watching something like a live Saturday afternoon Premier League game. It might start off slowly , but it will get quicker.

So your laptop is safe , otherwise I wouldn't use it on mine.

: )

I personally find this one to do a great job when it comes to finding a stream for live football.

Have used Sopcast in the past and found it to be good but the thing about justin.tv is that you don't appear to need to download any other applications (or maybe it works for me because I already have Sopcast etc... downloaded?).
