Massive Thanks to the Musicians and Gig-Goers of Swindon
Mon 11 Aug 2008 11:42
I've had some sleep now, my limbs still ache and my head is pounding slightly, but i wanted to pass on my thanks to everyone who took part in this years Shuffle, when we came up with the idea some 2 and 1/2 years ago I don't think any of us thought it would take off as much as it did, the 2007 Shuffle was a pleasure to be involved and I certainly worried how we'd match it... I think we went one better this year.

The acts all put in strong performances, the venue's (apart from the Apartments) got into the spirit of things and most importantly YOU the gig-going public turned up, by my reckoning 1000 people came through the various doors at the various venues over 4 days.

It was an absolute pleasure to have been a part of this for a second year.

I'm ruined.

I cant stop smiling though : )

I wish I could find words to express how much everyone's support meant to us this weekend. It was a brilliant thing in it's entirety, but a few things stick out as personal highlights:

* Pinning the "sold out" sign on the door of the Vic!

* Seeing the 12Bar go absolutely mental for The Alfonz

* Pete(2SM)'s opening speech on the thursday

But most importantly:

* Walking around every venue, from thursday to sunday, and seeing EVERYONE smiling, having fun, meeting new friends, hugging old ones, giving words of support, finding new things to talk about, dancing, two-stepping, SINGING LOCAL BANDS' LYRICS BACK AT THEM!, oh f**k it just plain everything!

Thanks everyone.

See you next year!

I think this year's proved that you can pack out every venue with live music 4 days running every year with the right hard work and dedication. Paj, Sam, Rich & Al pulled off a blinder of a weekend, and Sam & Paj in particular get a lot of respect from me for working themselves to the bone and loving every minute of it.

I honestly can say, I don't think I saw a bad performance this weekend. And I think every band should feel proud of the way they played. There's no highlight performance or band that rose above anyone else this year. The highlight was the festival itself.

Onwards and upwards, dear friends.

My various aches and pains would suggest it was a quality weekend. It was quality to catch up with a whole bunch of people I haven't seen in too long and meet some new peeps too, as well as finally seeing a whole bunch of bands the erstwhile Mr Moon has been telling me to see for ages. Maybe he'll shut up now.

Many, many thanks to all who organised and helped make this a memorable weekend, and special nods to Paj and Dave Young for all their continued efforts to put some life into this grand old town. And of course to all the bands who played their socks off.

Now I need a bucket of coffee. And then another.

Thank god I took today off work - I ache all over. Three days of non-stop drinking has taken its toll here.. :p

Had a fantastic time dj'ing between bands in The Vic last night. Thanks to everyone who came up and spoke to me asking what the hell I was playing (in a good way that is!!) : )

Credit where credit's due mate, you played some stonking tunes at the Vic last night, really helped to build the atmosphere (especially the choice of soundtracks played before Lighterthief took the stage, when that track from 28 Days Later came on, it really seemed to fire the crowd up).

I think that you really summed it up there, fantastic as all the music was...and I literally mean all...the bands are really only half of what makes the Shuffle...its the massive party atmosphere and the mixing of people from all musical walks. People getting to see bands they might otherwise make the effort for, punters, musicians, promoters, venue owners, people from studios etc all mingling together and becoming one entity, no hierarchy, no divisions, just a bloody good laugh. I wonder how many new bands will emerge in the coming year based on contacts made or conversations had over those few days.

Awesome.
