on pc's not using the latest version of ie or firefox (like this work pc) i can barely read anything as the font is all corupted and blurry and its the same on quite a few other pc's i've used. could put off a new user a little when they first come on.

I'm here at work using the old IE6 that's been going since the early noughties and it looks fine here...

Looks like your font size has been set smaller than default. Either View > Text Size > Medium or Ctrl + Mouse Wheel will bump up the font size

made 0 difference. its set to "largest" but still really hard to read. dave's pc is exactly the same whenever i use it on this site.

think this is just ie 5 on xp. every other website i go on is perfectly fine. this is the only one i have seen with this kind of problem and i have seen it on a few pc's since this new site went live. but on the majority i have used to few this site/forum work fine and they have also been on xp with ie 5 so only thing i can really think of is maybe its not using a completly standard font that some pc's dont have

IE5 is a browser that's used by less than 1% of web users these days. Probably some odd quirk with it...
