It's still not been confirmed yet, mainly because our first choice of charity hasn't replied to any of the three emails we sent them - you can't give money away nowadays!

If anyone's got a (sensible) suggestion of a good charity we can support then post it in this thread...

Don't know what the one you've already approached is, but what about considering something which does really good work with young people in Swindon.

We have lots of posts on here about what needs changing in this town, and disaffected young people etc

What about something like the SMASH project?

I have had some connections with them previously though work and there were issues with funds at the time. It might be nice to support a group who are doing something positive and proactive with young people in this town?

Or Swindon Young Carers who provide support for young carers in the area.

Another group I've had some connection with in the past through work.

What about maybe doing something with GWR Kids appeal ?? could get extra publisity then aswell or maybe something with one of the charities involved with the council or BBC wiltshire ??

I looked up swindon music charities/schemes but there doesn't seem to be any that are that easily found. Just thought i'd be good to keep the money coming back into the town.

Just a thought anyway.

I thought this had already been arranged and plans were in place for how to use the money, or did I get the wrong end of the stick??

I know a great charity, it's called the Cause Against Social Harm - tell you what, just gimme the cheque, make it payable to the initials and I'll pass it on for ya..... ; )

No scandal - we did have an idea around making the Shuffle an official charity and using the money to support the local scene, but there were too many grey areas in the charity laws that looked like we'd fall foul of since a lot of live music comes under commercial control.

probably best to keep things at arms length and give the money to an existing charity with local connections.

The Party on the Green wanted to set up as a charity last year. Even without the commercial side of things it was an absolute nightmare and to be frank a complete minefield of pitfalls!

Just raise the money and give it to someone else. Keep life simple unless you want to do this sort of thing full time?

That's frustrating! I do hope they don't moan if/when the money raised ends up going to another charity!!

Tue 8 Jul 2008 13:15
So who is the money going to..still no official word I see

and is it true that the organizers will be taking some of the money as "pay"....If this is true surely it is wrong to call it a charity event!!

Can the organizers state on here that 100& of the money is definately going to charity?

I am not accusing or anything like that I just want some clarification on this issue
