Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & Trinity - Indian Rope Man

just this track on repeat on the way into work, killer tune, some mean hammond organ and a fantastic groove to it, great late 60s mod psych at it's best

Bought the Reverend and the Makers CD last week and it is now a permenant fixture in the works van. Top album sort of reminds me of a heady mix of the Tansads, The Shaman and Chumbawamba.

The Tansads.... crikey, now theres a blast from the past

I bought and really liked the first Rev and the Makers single "Heavyweight Champion Of The World" but haven't heard anything as strong by him since, thought the album was okay but was a bit in the shadow of that great track.

The opening, title track is brilliant, I just love the sarcastic lyrics, thats the Tansads connection for me...and the flatcap and whippet accented vocals. Oddly enough I was talking to Attica Al about the band the other day due to the fact that he found bassplayer Ed Jones book in a charity shop , a good read on how not to make it in music.

Listening to...

James Murphy (LCD Soundsytem) FabricLive mix
Justice FabricLive Mix

Both of which are ace but Justice just nab it because they manage to mix Todd Rundgren, Chic, Daft Punk, Korgis and Sparks together like liquid gold.

minus the bear - planet of ice (they change with each album, but this one is a dance-pop-prog-math-rock masterpiece!)

the weakerthans - reunion tour (i just can't get enough of this album, john samson is still one of my favourite songwriters)

hot water music - a flight and a crash (i'm hoping they announce some more uk tour dates now they've reformed again, gruff punk rock with heart & some incredible playing)

I've read Ed's book, its a funny and honest account of the pitfalls of the music industry

Asobi Seksu. Good recommendations Mr Bates via Mr Moon. Reminds me of a cross between the Sundays and St Etienne. You know what I mean.

just drove to work manually selecting the best tracks from Smugglers and Bounty Hunters, by The Men They Couldnt Hang. ITs a band probably lost on many but as Mr Luth recently pointed out, I do listen to bands who make music mainly with hurdy-gurdies and turnips. (this has mandolin too)

Just dug out 'Mutiny!' by Set Your Goals. Well happy that they're playing Oxford soon... and even more happy that the tickets are only £7.
