From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea - The Cure. That's how you play a guitar.

"Cissy Strut" - The Meters. Dirty motor city funk at its most simple and ace. Great riff.

How to be Invisible by Kate Bush. I think it's best song from her Ariels album.

The Besnard Lakes - Albatross

Truly sublime stuff, sounds like The Cocteau Twins colliding with My Bloody Valentine, one of the best things I've heard this year.

it's a tie-up, personally:

Bob Dylan - Idiot Wind (never ceases to inspire me)
Converge - First Light/Last Light (see above)

The Dears - Who Are You, Defenders of the Universe?

For people who have not come across this band, imagine Damon Albarn singing along to Elbow or Doves

Whilst on the subject of Canadian rock & roll bands, I've just been listening to Kensington Heights by the Constantines.

"No Cities Left" was a brilliant album (esp the classic single "Lost In The Plot"; ) when it came out in 2003, haven't heard any of their other albums though
