Any one who frequents joinmyband.com or gumtree may have seen this add. Any one who doesn't, I would just like to draw attention to, and mock it.

Top Music Producer & Songwriter
Just finished producing a pop album which I co wrote for a young female artist due for release in 2012.

I only work on projects tied to a major label or serious budget (investment), and only use the best session players, engineers and studios.

If an artist/band is good enough I can co-write a full top end album and produce the whole thing to a finished/mastered radio ready (album chart) product, but to create anything of worth a full year has to be looked at as a realistic time frame to write and produce a good enough album to release.
If the material is already written then the time frame could be less.

Main instruments:
Piano, Wurly, Hammond, Keys and Bass.
Also play acoustic and electric guitar.
Brass Arrangements, Strings, Drum Production etc..

Experienced with tours and studio work all over the world with top names and top studios.
Tight player, great feel, good sense of humour, perfectionist and very honest about the work im suited for.


So then why are you advertising on joinmyband and gumrtee? Do you think major labels/artists/hideously rich people looks for the likes of people like you on joinmyband or gumtree?

especially when the "Top Producer" isn't named (so that you can verify - email them, introduce yourself etc).

this ad should read
"send all of your best ideas to me (because I don't have a creative bone in my body) and I'll re-hash them and present them as my own"

these people survive because there are still gullible people out there that believe that answering an ad like this is going to get them "discovered" - well folks 99.999% of the time it doesn't work like that.

So you've never been naive or misguided then? I know I have. It's a learning curve, at least they are trying. Agree about the "producer" one though...

I've never put an add out saying 'please manage my band'. I'm all for actually playing until some one notices. Hard work I say. If I was a manager, I wouldn't take it seriously, or even be looking on joinmyband for the next big thing. So no. Never.

But I didn't realise SXSW didn't pay it's acts!

I was thinking it was naive to ask for management on a website, but then this statement just made me think that Artist Managers have to start somewhere too - the act posting the advert may just be looking for someone local interested in getting into music management to help them with things like organising gigs and local publicity as part of their own learning curve...

I know of someone (not in Swindon) who made a successful career as management and booking agent for covers and tribute acts - not everyone is looking to make millions, some are happy just paying the bills working on something they love!

This is the dream for me!

Go to work, work on a few gigs, go sell the venue to agents, run through promotion, book bands... Maybe one day I'll figure it out
