Irish Soul for St Patrick’s Weekend

Dave Finnegan is the original man from the blockbuster film 'The Commitments' who played the part of 'Mickah Wallace' the drummer and bouncer.

For the last 12 years he has been the voice of Stars from The Commitments, and tours with his superb band spreading the gospel of soul worldwide!

Dave Finnegan’s Commitments will perform their ‘sweet soul music’ at Swindon MECA during St Patrick’s Weekend bringing Irish Soul to the masses on Sunday 18th March 2012.

Dave Finnegan will be live on stage with his eight piece band together with special guests from the original Commitments movie…. Kenneth McCluskey who played the character ‘ Derek Meatman Scully and Dick Massey who played the character ‘ Billy The Animal Mooney’

Dave Finnegan, Kenneth McCluskey and Dick Massey shot to fame in 1991 in the Hollywood blockbuster movie The Commitments from which came such hits as ‘Try a Little Tenderness’ , ‘Mustang Sally’, ‘Mr Pitiful’, ‘I Cant Stand the Rain’ and many more.

Dave Finneganhas appeared in countries such as Brazil, USA, Canada, all over Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa, The Middle East, India, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand – the last guesstimate being that he performed to an excess of two million people!

He has performed along side such legendary artists as James Brown, Wilson Picket, Edwin Starr, Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper, Dennis Edwards (The Temptations), BB King, Sam Moore, Dan Ackroyd and many, many more. It was Sam Moore who questioned, ‘how can a little white guy have a soul and a voice that’s so black!’

Are there any new, original bands in the pipeline? I'm still looking for an excuse to check the place out.

And... it just gets worse. Seriously, what a fucking joke.

I've tried not to say anything too negative about MECA up to this point, but this and the Kings of Harmony thing just don't inspire me.

Yup, me too. I've tried to be as positive as possible about MECA and really had hoped the new owners might make a difference. It's becoming fairly clear that they won't.

Time to stop pandering to the place and start being honest about it.

Woeful

The MECA is a joke really isn't it?

Open for 12 months now and I'm yet to see anything that'd make me want to go and see a gig there (apart from the Buzzcocks)

What next?

Nirvana minus all the original members perhaps? or the drummer from Northern Uproar interprets the hits of Britpop.
