Reply to Post 80267 by 20Eyes in T-Rex & Boomtown Rats - MECA SWINDON On that I completely disagree. The Vic is busy because it's a decent pub in an area with massive footfall and is well and truly established. MECA is none of those things.

What I do agree with is Rich's comments about the PR nonsense that always spews forth from MECA. It's like witnessing the very worst 'best practice' management guff from the 1980s that everyone else has moved on from and finds a bit embarrassing.

Even if MECA was a success it'd be cringey, but when they put on an average of 1 event per month and cancel almost as many due to a complete lack of ticket sales, it just makes them look silly to continually claim it's 'buzzing with activity' and 'tickets are flying out'. We can all see with our own eyes that the opposite is actually the reality.

I'm not really sure what you are disagreeing with? All I said was with a large enough target audience it should be able to cover costs, assuming they are cheap enough.

Bizarrely at work today, the regular music dude was chatting to a few other enthusiasts about this show. Quite the feat, I'm pretty sure no one has ever mentioned a show in Swindon before at the Devizes post office!

Ypu're quite correct over their promotional spews. Has it gone from not enough info to too much?

I was only saying that The Vic is busy regardless of any bands playing or not. It exists as a place people go despite there maybe not being any particular attraction on at the time... and it's very well established.

Nobody goes to MECA if there's no event on. For 29 days out of every month you couldn't even go there if you wanted to because the doors will be locked.

Their problem is that while their potential target audience may be large, they're clearly not able to turn that into ticket purchasers. Sure, you'd certainly hope a couple of nobodies from has-been bands aren't costing too much money, but I bet it's more than we'd find sensible.

I can't personally see them breaking even with much less than 200 tickets sold and I reckon they'll struggle to do that.

Apparently they did 40 advance for the Sylosis show. That speaks volumes.

It's a vicious circle... once you become known for cancelling shows due to poor ticket sales, nobody bothers buying tickets in advance and so the whole thing spirals downwards.

So how did this go?

I've just seen a drum solo on youtube taken from the MECA, but you can't tell the size of the crowd...
