BAND BIOGS

T-REX
The band today owes it's origins to three of Marc Bolan's valued musicians. Mickey Finn, Paul Fenton and Jack Green.

The story started in 1997 when they were invited to appear at a special memorial concert at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. This event was held in the same week as a presentation by The Performing Rights Society (PRS) at the site, in Barnes, London of Marc Bolan's untimely death. Now a memorial garden.

It was suggested to the guys that it would be a good idea to reform the T-Rex band. Paul invited Barry Newby an old friend and ex 'Smokie' tour manager to help recruit the musicians, manage and give finacial support.

The band played their first show with front man Rob Benson for the Porsche company in March 1999 at the Matrin Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart. Dates in Japan followed and since then the band have promoted not just Marc Bolan's great songs and sales of the back catalogue but thrilled thousand upon thousand of music fans throughout the UK, Europe and Far East. The band continued to perform extensively until Mickey Finn's death in 2003. However it had always been Mickey's wish that the band should continue and deeply touched by the Publics overwhelming support the band have continued to do so.

The band today with it's expanded line-up reflects the mid 70's period and features the two female voices that helped make Marc Bolan and T-Rex the iconic name that music fans remember.

The current version of the band also features guitarist Graham Oliver, who formed the British Heavy Metal band SAXON in 1975. Graham was introduced to the band on a ferry between Stockholm and Helsinki in 2002 and replaced Smokie's Alan Silson who left the band in 2004 to persue a solo career. The remainder of the band are: Jay Spargo lead vocal. Dave Major Keyboards/vocal. Tony Allday Bass. Linda Dawson vocals.

BOOMTOWN RATS
Friends Garry Roberts, Johnnie Moylett, Patrick Cusack, Simon Crowe and Gerry Cott formed a band in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. Bob Geldof was originally invited to be the band's manager, but he soon found himself nominated to take on the role of lead vocals by guitarist Garry Roberts, who originally had that job and didn't want it. Playing the guitar was difficult enough for him, without having to sing as well. Geldof's ridiculous harmonica playing impressed the others hugely and sealed his fate.

The band's early influences were Dr. Feelgood, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Doors and Bob Marley, among many others. Gerry and Pete arranged the band's first gig for Hallowe'en 1975, for a fee of £60 - not bad for 1975, under the name of The Nightlife Thugs, at the Bolton Street Technical College, where they - and Johnnie, were studying Architectural Technology. Just before the band went on stage, they changed their name to The Boomtown Rats, who were a gang mentioned in Woody Guthrie’s autobiography, "Bound For Glory".

The Rats were soon causing a buzz throughout the whole of Ireland.

In 2008 to present day

Guitarist Garry Roberts and drummer Simon Crowe get together to form The Rats - playing Boomtown Rats songs.

....and a T-rex tribute band! Early days under new management but not what I was hoping to see as their first announcement.

Graham Oliver is playing with T-rex ? wtf ???!?!!!!???!!!

Geldolf was playing one of my fav rock and roll bars a few weeks ago , would have been nice if he joined his old lot , bearing in mind this venue is 6 times the size ?

So, £15 for two bands consisting of only one person who might reasonably have been 'heard of' by anyone?

Without Bolan or Geldof this is clearly a joke. At £15.40 a ticket it becomes a very bad joke.

Almost certain to be cancelled in any case.

and I would have thought it is pushing their luck if they do advertise themselves as T-Rex based on having a one time Bolan session man in their ranks. I once jammed with Mark Chapman but I don't go around calling myself The Levellers!
