Well in an effort to stem the tide of posts about Nike trainers, tattoo supplies and who hates who on the local sceneI thought I would do the unthinkable and talk about a few gigs coming up. As you probably know by now Songs of Praise, held first Thursday of the month at The Victoria is under new management, but to be fair very little has changed. The guys at Green Man Music are now booking the bands and we want to try and build the night back up to its past glories. Think of it as yor first port of call for checking out some of the newer original bands on the local circuit often indispersed with our pick of bands that we have been working with out side the parish boundaries. We have the next three shows already in place with next year filling up fast.

6th October - Young and effervesant pop/rock with Supersquare Cloud, Secret Lives and Nudy Bronque - click for details

3rd November - Eclectic indie with The Costellos, The Black Hats, David Lynch - click for details

1st December - Songwriters showcase. we have invited a plethora of local talent to play together in new and interesting ways, covers, new takes on their own songs, chaotic unrehearsed panic jamming and any number of new avenues being explore. Expect the unexpected but expect something amazing. Confirmed so far, Neil Mercer, Stu Rowe, Charlie Bath, Dave Corrigan, Alice Offley and Matthew Kilford - click for details

Please visit the FB pages for these events and please share with your friends list but more than that come along to the shows, they are free and full of good music. If you subscribe to the idea of supporting local music then come along to a show now and again and lets make Songs of Praise a real celebration of rising musical talent.

There is now a link to some lovely photo's to Green Mans first outing at the helm of Songs of Praise. It just shows all the people who snipe on this site that no one goes to gigs that you can make it work with a bit of effort and a bit of luck. Songs of Praise used to be the place to go for new, emerging local talent and hopefully will be again. Anyway, head to our website article and follow the link at the end. Here's to more of the same next month with The Costellos, The Black hats and David Lynch.

Songs of Praise is now organised by us guys at Green Man Music and together with a second monthly slot which starts next year is sort of a show case of the bands we have worked with, written about or that we think have something interesting going on. This is not limited to Swindon bands and already we have had The Black Hats (Witney) Kill Cassidy, Hello Lazarus (Bristol) and already have bookings for Kodiac Jack and Moody Tuesday (Portsmouth) Anton Barbeau (Berlin) and Schnauser (Bristol).

There is no application as such we just put line ups together from the bands that we like the sound of, that we think will draw a crowd (it's a business after all) and who are doing something different or better that their contemporaries. Hope that clears things up for you.
