Friday 10th September 2010 at The Victoria
Description
Winter 2006. Flushed with the success of their monthly "Jilted Generation" nights at The Furnace, Mark E Moon and DJ Dust plan another night that's a little different for the club that's renowned for playing nothing but rock and metal. Their plan? A night with NO rock and metal. A night where the club goes back to its Level 3 roots and Pop, New Wave and Indie rule the roost. A night where artists as poles apart as Joy Division, ...Girls Aloud, Johnny Cash, Martha & The Muffins, The Human League and The Gossip all rub shoulders together...
Risky? Definitely! A challenge worth trying? Hell yeah!!
Transmission was duly born and ran for a few months during which time, Messrs Moon and Dust collaborated on a "Transmission : Volume One" mix CD that's now shifted several hundred copies in the 3 and a half years it's been available. As it turned out, the night itself at The Furnace didn't last but the idea did. Last September, Moon and Dust collaborated on a second "Transmission" mix CD and held a special one-off night at The Victoria pub to launch it. It pretty much blew all expectations with the venue packed out by 11pm and everyone partying along to everything from AC/DC to Arcade Fire, Leftfield to Lady GaGa and Yazoo to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It was bloody fantastic, so much so that, due to popular demand, they did it all over again 3 months later. Let's be honest though, that one wasn't such a success but, seeing as it was the first week of January 2010 and the entire UK just happened to be frozen solid and *no one* was out *anywhere* (remember?) it wasn't such a surprise...
They're giving it another go though on Friday 10th September so, come on up and expect a lot more music from the likes of the following...
The Avalanches, Kim Wilde, Pulp, Depeche Mode, Moloko, Soulwax, Duran Duran, Lemon Jelly, A-Ha, Hot Chip, Roxy Music, Friendly Fires, Cabaret Voltaire, Oasis, Simple Minds, No Doubt, Justice, Metronomy, Gary Numan, Horrors, Ladytron, Late Of The Pier, Michael Jackson, Leftfield, Blancmange, Ash, Passion Pit, Liars, Golden Silvers, White Lies, M83, LCD Soundsystem, Tears For Fears, Telepathé, The Big Pink, Chew Lips, Talk Talk, Joy Division, Underworld, La Roux, The Phantom Band, The Maccabees, New Order, Ladyhawke, Muse, Human League, MGMT, Kraftwerk, HURTS, Blur, Kong, Chemical Brothers, Blondie, Sugababes, Talking Heads, Little Boots, Bombay Bicycle Club, Gossip, Martha & The Muffins, Mystery Jets, Simian Mobile Disco, OMD, Animal Collective, TV On The Radio, Prodigy, Tenpole Tudor, Deerhunter, Empire Of The Sun, New Young Pony Club, Adam & The Ants, Visage, The Joy, Formidable, Howling Bells, Maximo Park, Dananananaykroyd, The Whip, Pet Shop Boys, Youthmovies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Young Knives, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, The Drums, Soft Cell, The Horrors, Vampire Weekend, Faithless, Foals, Pulp, The Cure, Delphic, Ultravox, The Rakes, Eurythmics, Goldfrapp, The Rumble Strips, Yazoo, Joe Jackson, Crystal Stilts, 1990s, Heaven 17.
