Band Bio
Prometheus is a five-piece band that has been around for a few years now. Starting out in 2002, the band was formed by a group of metal-head friends. Everyone loved heavy music and it just so happened that everyone played an instrument. After a long process of writing music they started gigging round their hometown of Swindon where metal music had pretty much died out. Since then they have concentrated on building up the local fanbase and scene and have played gigs that show their success in this.
With several line-up changes the band have been perfecting their own style. There is Paul ‘Elston’ (singer) with his ever increasing distinctive, powerful voice and the ability to make songs sing-along catchy despite the heaviness. Alan Swadden and Stuart Jackman (guitars) who are mostly riff orientated, use a lot of slow and fast thrash riffs to keep the pits crazy. Aiming to never do anything that is cliché they are always working to better their song-writing ability in whatever ways possible. Chris ‘Fordy’ on bass guitar brings a solid backing to the whole band. Fordy isn’t just a bassist to follow root notes, his bass is always well thought out and adds so much more to the songs and they wouldn’t be right without his parts. James Hackett on drums joined after Prometheus fired their last drummer who held them back from their potential. Ever since he joined he has exceeded expectations ten-fold and continues to improve at a phenomenal rate. With his integration of blast-beats and pummelling double bass the songs have come into their own.
The Prometheus ‘sound’ can vary greatly and includes slow and chuggy to fast thrash riffs with powerful heavy and emotional lyrics. (However if you think Pauls vocals are ‘emo’ you would be very, very mistaken). Put simply everything is heavy…but still sing-along.
Prometheus have finished recording thier debut 10 track album 'Awaken' which will be released in the near future.
Prometheus has achieved a lot in recently. They recently participated in the Megabowl Battle of the Bands and despite being the only metal band they beat about forty bands to the contraversial final.
Prometheus have also played some gigs with such bands as Interlock (as seen in Terroriser, Anticulture records), Axis of Evil (voted best-unsigned band for 2005 by Terroriser), Head-on (recently signed to Universal Records) and Britains favourite Hardcore metal band ‘Knuckledust’.
At a live show Prometheus gig shows have been described by fans as ‘brutal’, ‘sick’, ‘Professional’, ‘(an) incredible performance’ and ‘with no let up anywhere’.
Presses have written:
‘Crowd interaction from the lead vocalist Paul Elston and introductions to songs you could understand so you knew what songs you loved, Prometheus proceeded to play a tight and varied set with a great tone and well balanced levels. 'Mind Politics' with its great bass line and 'Inconsequential Thoughts' with its good old power chords, heavy beat and the sheer fact it contained some actual singing, deserves mentions as exciting sing-along numbers that cannot be ignored and made the set unmissable.’
