Band Bio
THE BAND - HANZA
In early 2005, Jon, Lee and Graham joined forces to form HANZA.
During the past year and a half the band have been tearing down the studio “shed”, song writing, rehearsing and getting demos together. They continue to rehearse hard, write material, and are now putting themselves about and hitting the road.
HANZA are……
GRAHAM MATTINGLEY - lead vox/guitar/bass
Graham’s fast paced, maniacal, style is filled with adrenaline-loaded attitude. His serious passion for song writing and performing reflects his idealistic romanticism. He hammers in lyrical hooks that provide no escape from the eclectic scramble. Serious, passionate, flamboyant and tough-loaded with attitude, his charisma fixates audiences like rabbits in the headlights of a truck.
Prior to joining Hanza, Graham was the bass player for the highly acclaimed CINNAMON SMITH who were signed to POLYGRAM and toured with SANTA CRUZ & LONG PIGS. They also grab a mention in Pete Frames (of Rock Family Tree’s) Rocking around Britain. Earlier still, Graham formed WHOLESOME CRACK, releasing various demos and a single under their own record label ‘BLACK OUT and SCATTER’ which was aired on the late, great, JOHN PEEL show.
LEE MOULDING - drums
Raised as an XTC sprog, Lee was exposed early on to the sounds of funk, punk, ska, reggae and art rock by his musician father COLIN MOULDING of XTC.
With that lot in his back pocket at such a tender age it’s no wonder his song writing and instrumental talent developed, kicking out an awesome and inspiring style of rock drumming. On stage, he’s mesmerising.
Lee has provided drums and backing vocals on the released XTC box set bonus track, “SAY IT”. He co-wrote THE SUNDAYDOGS’, “WhoRU” EP along with Jon from HANZA, produced by COLIN MOULDING. Lee pounded out his unique rhythmic drumming for “PAGAN FRINGE”, signed to HEARTACHE TRANSPLANT RECORDS, distributed by ROUGH TRADE. He went on to form Swindon-based KEOMA who scored soundtracks for Sky Sports World Windsurfing Championships. They gigged extensively with their farewell gig supported by “EDITORS”. His recording credits extend to the soon to be released, “STONES” album by “MOON MEDICINE”.
JON BUCKETT – guitar/bass
Jon’s appetite and natural flare for music began aged 5 when he started his first instrument, the piano. A versatile musician Jon’s reputation is known for his prosody and harmonising influence. His craftsmanship expressed in his ability for musical arrangements is solid and adds stability with melodic flavours. His versatility to embrace and master an array of instruments has labelled him justifiably “master technician”!
Jon and Lee have a long history together, and have formed a solid musical partnership over the years, collaborating and forming the backbone of their many musical ventures. Including, Jon laying down piano and backing vocals on released XTC box set bonus track “SAY IT”. He was the other half of The SUNDAYDOGS and worked as session musician on the MOON MEDICINE album contributing keyboard, guitar and bass.
He was keyboard player and guitarist with KEOMA
